DANI'S EMAIL

CHAPTER THREE DANI'S EMAIL It was 7:45 a.m when Naya got to Valdosta Company, she was already seated in the lobby. Naya’s closet didn't give her much opinion on what to wear, so she chose the one outfit that made her feel confident and comfortable. Naya wore a cream-colored buttoned-up blouse, neatly ironed, though the fabric was slightly faded. The black palazzo pants she wore didn't disappoint, though the stiffness around the collar of her blouse gave her the "I am serious about this job” kind of look. The plain black flat shoes on her feet was not screaming fashion instead it was saying “I am responsible,” she tied her long, thick black hair up in ponytail making her face look very delicate, she wasn't wearing any makeup yet her looks were still charming though innocent, she looked like a tender kitten with her small lips and hazel eyes, her black handbag was not stylish though it's clean and suitable for her job. The only jewelry she had on was the stud earrings that were simple and quiet like her. She sat down quietly, not like a girl who was trying to impress anyone, but like a girl whose life had been given another chance to start over. The receptionist walks up to her with a look of disdain on her face. Naya felt the awful energy instantly. She knew that look; she was used to people looking at her like that, and she was never bothered. “Follow me”, she said walking away immediately. Naya followed her quietly till they got to a huge door, then she turned to Naya. “Go in, she's waiting for you.” Naya knocked on the door, then a voice from inside told her to come in. Good morning, ma. She greeted, still standing. A vibrant lady was sitting behind the desk, the heavy makeup on her face would tell you she wasn't going to be easy to work with. She scanned Naya’s look from her head to her toes with raised brows before asking her to sit down. I miss Tiana Lourdes. I am the Human Resource Manager; you will be working under me till you can cope and handle bigger assignments. She paused, then looked Naya in the eyes before saying, " Your job here is more like a messenger, you will do every outdoor and indoor errand without complaining. Is that clear? Yes ma'am, she answered Naya Sinclair, apart from the write-ups in your résumé, is there anything about you that you think I should know? No ma'am, everything you need to know is all in my résumé, she replied. “Alright, follow me”. Tiana walked towards the order side of the hallway, her fitted bodycon dress captured every side of her curvy body, the stiletto heels she wore made her look more elegant and intimidating compared to the casual fits Naya wore. Meet Alexa and Cynthia, they are our interns, and they will put you through everything you need to know concerning this department and the entire Valdosta Company, with which she walk away. “Hi, I am Naya,” Alexa smiled at her, while Cynthia scoffed and looked away. Naya, come over here, don't worry, as long as you are good, I will guide you, okay? Alexa said with a welcoming smile. Naya felt relieved, she finally met someone who likes her, or rather pretends to like her. Thank you, Alexa, I will do my best. The first day is always the hardest, but with me by your side, I will make sure to help assist you the best way I can, Alexa added. Naya stared at the computer screen in front of her trying not to show she was nervous. I just want to do well, she said. “You will, you just have to avoid getting on Miss Tiana’s bad record at all costs,” Alexa’s words sounded more like a warning than advice. Naya swallowed, I will have that in mind. Naya got home very tired and hungry. She bought instant noodles on her way home, and she rushed to the shower immediately after unlocking the door. After a quick bath, she sat down on her bed, savoring every taste of the noodles till she remembered last night. She stopped eating immediately. Walking to the desk where her laptop was lying flat, her hands began to tremble and a sudden sense of heat rushed all over her body. She wanted to make sure that what she saw yesterday was real; she had to convince herself earlier, before leaving in the morning, that she was seeing things due to how happy she was last night. The screen of the laptop lit up once again. She sat down, placing both her hands on the keyboard. A part of her was still terrified, but she knew she needed to confirm her doubts. She clicked on the email icon. There it was, boldly written. “Did you get the job?” Now she knew she wasn't daydreaming, so she sat up close to the laptop. Her trembling hands kept on typing, but she didn't know what she was typing, she kept on typing and deleting till she began to sob quietly. She looked around her room. It was just her; it had always been just her ever since Dani's death. She was too scared to even think, she didn't want to think of the fact that maybe someone hacked into Dani's account and was trying to lure her. She picked up her phone to call her mother, but she didn't know what to tell her. Her mother had always believed that Dani's death affected her psychologically, so she didn't want her mother to confirm her doubts, so she dropped her phone. She kept on staring at the screen till she began to feel dizzy. “Dani I don't know what to do, I don't know what to believe.” Where are you Dani? Is someone trying to manipulate me? Dani please show me a sign. She kept on lamenting till her body began to feel weak. She sat there for a good amount of time before convincing herself that she needed to stop at this point. She was too scared to even think of what could possibly happen if she replied to Dani's email.
