“I’m really sorry,” Lucas said as he settled himself into the pilot’s seat in his Piper Seneca. “I was just putting my stuff in the plane when those two goons showed up and jumped me.”
“It’s all right,” Jeremy replied, even though he knew everything was just about the exact opposite of all right. Inwardly, he was berating himself. He should have set it up so they all met at the hotel and then went to the airport together. It might have been a bit more of a hassle when it came to returning their rental cars, but at least Lucas wouldn’t have been left on his own to face those Walker bastards. “We couldn’t have known.”
