Chapter 2

1186 Words
I was always regarded as a geek in middle school cause I didn't joke with my studies, I never Missed classes, and was very attentive in class. I had this motive of being the best, at being at the top of the class. I never gave room for any form of unnecessary distractions. Most people didn't like me for that, they felt I was too tight. That was when I met Vivian and Debby, my two best friends. We were the best in our class throughout middle school and we became very close friends. I told my parents about it, they didn't care that much but told me to avoid getting myself too wrapped up with this whole 'friendship thing'. Dad said. Until they found out our parents were all business partners, so it worked out. I usually go to their house and talk about assignments and projects. We never discussed anything personal or anything that had to do with relationships cause we thought we didn't have time for that. We all went to the same high school and continued with our good grades as the top 3 best students. High school was totally different from middle school, it was hard to avoid distractions. And everyone had their own group/clang. We had the most popular kids, who had their usual table at the cafeteria and usually sits at the back of the class during lessons. We also had a football team, and a basketball team, the cheerleaders also had their group, and these groups hardly mixed. I think I was also given a group for nerds with my best friends, Vivian and Debby. I wasn't really bothered about the whole group thing cause it felt stupid. So one day I invited Vivian and Debby over and told them I wanted to talk about personal issues. They didn't hesitate and came. We all walked into my room. My room didn't look girly at all, I didn't have any poster of a band or anything that signifies I was a girl teenager. Only medals & awards for all my good grades since I was a child. They didn't look surprised at all. They both sat on my bed while I sat on a chair facing them. They looked at me waiting for me to talk. I cleared my throat and said, "I'm supposed you don't know the reason I called you guys here-" "Well duh!, You didn't tell us" Vivian cuts in. "Ouch!" She exclaimed rubbing the arm Debby had hit her and glaring at her. Debby ignored her and looked at me saying "Don't mind her, you told us you wanted to discuss personal matters" "Yes!, We never really discussed anything other than our studies and academics and I think it's time we'd loosen up a bit. Cause we can't go on like this" I said. They both looked at themselves and then at me surprised at what I just said. Cause they didn't expect it from me, if anything it would've been Vivian who would've said it. Then Vivian said " Woah! Anna, we weren't expecting this from you. But I love the sound of that, we can go partying, make new friends and ohhh! Talk about boys- " Debby cut her off again by hitting her on the arm. "Hey! What did you do that for?" She said hitting her back. " Cause you were talking too much and I didn't want you to say things you shouldn't," Debby said rubbing the place Vivian hit her. Although we had our priorities they usually quarrel and have an argument but the friendly type. Vivian is feisty and talks a lot, I can say she's very social and loves having fun, while Debby on the other hand was the opposite, she's reserved and calm. She's the matured type unless when she argues with Vivian. All I do is laugh when they had arguments and stop them when it's getting too far. I'm the head of this group, cause I'm more mature, and smarter and I'm good at making decisions that favor us all. "That's alright," I said stopping them from arguing any further. They both looked at me and I let out a sigh of relief. Then I continued " I understand what you both mean by that, I know it's kinda weird me calling you both to talk about kinds of stuff like this but let me explain further" they looked at me ushering me to go on. " I'm thinking about joining our school's basketball team because I've always found interest in it but I never showed it cause I didn't want it to become a distraction," I said looking at my shoes, I'm nervous saying it to them. " Ohh! That's alright, that's a good way to start" Debby says softly. " Yeah! I love the sound of that, I can hook you up right away. It won't be much of a problem to Dylan" Vivian said wiggling her brows which made me remember Dylan, her older brother who was the coach of our school's basketball team. Dylan is two years older than the three of us. Vivian has always thought that there was a special connection between Dylan and me. Since we always bump into each other anytime I went over to her house. She told me he has a crush on me which I doubted. I looked at her squarely " I'll think about it". " Okay" Vivian drags, breaking the silence. " I heard Tyler, one of the popular guys at school is throwing a party at his house this Friday," she says going through her phone like she's getting the information from it. " And look..." She says flashing Debby and me the image on her phone." Everyone's invited" she chimes in. " I don't know, it's kinda weird. No one had ever invited us for a party like this before, even if they did we'd usually decline it" Debby says looking at the description of the party from Vivian's phone. She has a point, but I believed it's a chance for us to become social and loosen up a bit. Vivian doesn't have a problem with that cause she's a free type of person, talks to anyone and she's very much likable not to talk of she's smart and beautiful. She could easily fit into any group, unlike me and Debby. I looked at them both and said " Sure why not, besides we have to prove to them that we aren't just nerds and that we too can have fun". It's unusual for me to say since I never cared about people's comments about me but I just had to feel too. " We have a year to finish high school and we have to make it count" I added firmly. " Heck yeah! I love that spirit, We have two more days to prepare" Vivian cheered with a big grin. " We'll do that after we've finished our project" Debby adds which made Vivian roll her eyes. "Then it settled" Vivian chimes in. I nod in agreement.
