I gave my grandmother’s hand a squeeze, as I silently promised her that I would be back, before Cash and I left her hospital room, heading outside to see the sun beginning to rise.
“I’ll get the car. Wait here.” Cash said, leaving me at the main entrance, near a bench, as he made his way into the parking lot adjacent to the hospital.
I would have thought the fresh air would have given me a burst of energy from being cooped up in the hospital all night, but it did quite the opposite, making me take a seat on the bench as I tried to keep my eyes open, knowing we had a long drive home.
