Chance led Mazie and I clear to the edge of my family’s ranch, land that none of us were venturous enough to freely take on, as the mountainsides were lined with loose bedrock that could give beneath your feet at any time. I watched Mazie’s wolf struggle in front of me, and I did my best to stay out of her wolf’s way, knowing that her and her wolf were still at odds with me, but I couldn’t help but stop her when she began to lose her footing in front of me.
