Raven’s POV
Thankfully, the rest of the school day went by without me having to see Jessica or deal with her drama, making me wonder if Chance truly had the influence to keep her off my back. As the bell rang, ending my last class for the day, I felt relieved that the day was finally over, and that somehow, I had survived even after the rough start that I had.
“Need a ride home to change before the party?” Mazie asked as we stepped out of the classroom, heading towards our lockers, but to be honest, I was still hesitant about going to the party, but with her offering to take me home, and not having to find a ride, how was I to say no.
“That would be amazing. My car hasn’t arrived yet from California, and I was forced to ride to school this morning with Chase.”
“Oh. I didn’t realize that Chase had brought you to school this morning.” Mazie says back to me surprised, and I stop in the middle of the hallway to turn and quickly say to her, “It was not by my choice. Evan insisted last night, when he dropped me off at my grandmother’s house, that Chase would drive me to school today, since I didn’t have my car, and my grandmother hadn’t made arrangements for me to ride the bus.”
“Speaking of the devil.” Mazie says, looking behind me, making me turn to see Chase standing at my locker.
“You got to be kidding me.” I said just above a whisper, as I questioned myself if there was anything in my locker that I really needed for tonight or if I could do without it to avoid having to talk to him. Unfortunately, I had homework in two of my previous classes, and I was going to have to face him whether I wanted to or not.
“I’ll meet you outside.” Mazie tells me, patting me on the shoulder, as to wish me good luck, before she headed towards her own locker, saying, “Hi Chase.” As she walked past him, leaving me to have to deal with him alone.
Taking a deep breath, I headed to my locker, trying to avoid talking to Chase, but it was clear that wasn’t going to happen, as he asked me, “Are you ready to go home?”
Opening my locker, I pulled out what I needed, shoving it into my backpack, as I said to him, “Where’s Jessica? Did you get her permission to talk to me?” Before slamming my locker shut, as I moved to walk away from him, not wanting to be seen talking to him, in fear that Jessica would retaliate for me not listening to her warning.
Chase reached out, grabbing me by the arm to stop me, spinning me around to face him, as he said to me, “Why would I have to have Jessica’s permission to talk to you? Did she say something to you?”
“Does it matter if she did?” I asked him, as I pulled my arm free from his grasp, before I began to walk down the hallway towards the front doors to the school.
“Raven, stop.” I heard Chase call out from behind me, but I didn’t stop and kept walking at a faster pace towards the doors, wanting to be freed from him.
As I stepped outside the school, I quickly looked around for Mazie, wanting to get the hell out of here. It had been a day, and the last thing I needed was for someone to report back to Jessica, that Chase and I were seen together. Plus, there was no way in hell that I was getting back into a vehicle with him, especially with the stunt he had pulled this morning.
Just as my eyes landed on Mazie, I felt my body lift from the ground, and I didn’t even have to look to see who was tossing me over their shoulders, as I knew it had to be Chase.
A yelp came from my lips before I screamed out, “Put me down!” while I began to kick my legs, but he grabbed hold of them, pulling them tightly to his chest, rendering them before I could do any damage to him. Using my fist, I began to beat on his back, as I continued to scream out for him to put me down, but he continued to walk towards the parking lot, as if he couldn’t hear me.
There was no doubt in my mind that I was making a scene, but I’d be damned if I was going to allow Chase to man handle me like this and take me against my will. What he was doing to me was barbaric, and he had to know that he was taking me against my will, but it was clear that he didn’t give a damn, even as I continued to scream out to him to let me down.
Chase suddenly came to an abrupt halt, before we made it to the parking lot, making me wonder if he was finally going to listen to me, but then I heard a familiar voice say to Chase, “Put her down.”
“Stay out of this.” Chase said to Chance, as I felt his chest begin to rumble, while I could have sworn, I heard him leave out a low growl towards his brother, but it was nothing compared to the growling sound that followed, filling the air around us.
My body instantly stiffened in Chase’s arms, wondering what on earth could have made that low of a growl, while I raised my head enough to see everyone frozen behind us, as if everyone was afraid to make a move. My heart began to race in my chest as I thought that there was a wild animal now standing directly in front of us, but then I heard another familiar voice say, “You heard him. Put her down.”
“He’s not my boss, and neither are you. Besides, dad told me to take her home, and that is exactly what I am going to do.”
“Doesn’t look like she wants you to.” Cash tells him, making me once again cry out, “Put me down.” Verifying what Cash had just said.
Another growl rumbled from Chase’s chest, before he slowly began to lower my feet back to the ground, and once my feet touched the ground, I pushed him, before I took off towards his brothers standing in front of him. Cash quickly wrapped his arm around me, as Chance took a step towards Chase, saying to him, “Go straight home now.”
Chase took a step forward, standing tall, but his size was nothing compared to Chance’s, but that didn’t stop him from going nose to nose with him, as he growls out, “You may be older than me by a few minutes, but you are not my Alpha.”
“Enough!” Chance said, taking Chase by the cuff of the neck, moving him towards the parking lot, while Mazie ran towards me, and Cash let go of me, as he followed his brothers.
“Let’s get you out of here.” Mazie said as she wrapped her arm around me, leading me in the opposite direction in the parking lot to her car, as I peered over my shoulder to see that everyone was still frozen in place, like they were in disbelief of what they just witnessed.
As for me, my heart was still racing, and my hands were shaking, not understanding what had just happened. Chase seriously had issues, and he needed to learn boundaries, especially when it came to me.
“Well, that was entertaining.” Mazie said once we were in her car, and she began to drive out of the parking lot, while I looked out my window to see Chase pinned up against a truck with Chance and Cash both holding him against it.
Chase’s eyes moved at that moment from his brothers to me, and he watched me drive away with Mazie. I could see the anger in his eyes towards me, making me quickly turn my head away from him, putting my head down, worried now about what he might do to me after what just happened.
“I never seen Chase so possessive before, let alone talk back to his brothers like that. Did something happen between the two of you this morning?” Mazie asked me, and I raised my head to look at her, wondering what on earth she was insinuating.
“No. Nothing happened between us this morning, other than he was acting like a crazy person, trying to kill us with his driving.”
“That’s not like Chase.” Mazie says once again, defending him, making me wonder if she truly knew him, because the Chase that I knew so far, seems to be a different Chase from what she knew him to be.
“I don’t know what to tell you then, other than he must not care for me, and I must bring out a different side to him than what you are used to.”
Mazie looked over at me, giving me a soft smile, before she said, “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean it like that. Let’s just forget what I asked, and let’s not let Chase ruin the rest of our day. We have a party to get ready for.”
The thought of going to the party now brought knots to my stomach, especially after what everyone had just witnessed. Plus, I was worried that Chase might show up, but after what happened, I would be surprised if any of the brothers were going to be there.
