A tall dresser on the far back wall caught my eye at that moment, drawing me away from my miserable thoughts. It actually wasn’t the dresser that caught my eye, but the little blue box that sat on top of it, that looked out of place. I moved to take a step towards it but froze when I heard the floorboards beneath the rug making a loud cracking sound. Taking another step, I listened closely, realizing that the sound wasn’t normal.
