Hobbling my way out the door in my new clothes, I realize that I spoke too soon. There is Jake, leaning his back against the wall with one foot propped up like he is in some 90s bar scene. I immediately freeze and take a step back, we make eye contact. He nods his head down the hallway and starts walking. I assume he wants me to follow. So I do. As soon as we turn around the corner and I am being pushed up against the wall. He has both hands against the wall beside either side of my head. Leaning close and looking down at me, I decide to make eye contact.
“Let's get one thing straight, Sam, you are mine. My slave, my worker, my human, my woman. You come when I call. You are to do as you are told. You will help the others of lesser ranks with cleaning and cooking. You will not go anywhere without my permission, and you will not ever pull a stunt like you did a few days ago. Do I make myself clear?”
“Crystal.”
“Good, I'll meet you by the front door, I have to pay the Doctor a visit.”
I slowly make my way to the front door. I'm already starting to get used to the aching muscles and bruised skin. Making my way down the hall and pushing past the front door wanting to see the outside world again. I'm already tired of being a prisoner inside. Taking in the beautiful nature before me and finally getting a wiff of fresh air, it was quickly ruined again by none other than Jake. Who, once I se him, picks me up and throws me over his shoulder.
“I can walk, ya know.”
“There's nothing but dirt and rocks, you have no shoes. I'm doing you a favor.”
Whatever. I just hang there until we entered the house. We definitely received some glares, or should I say I received some glares. I was told my presence may not be received well upon arrival.
Putting me back on my feet once inside the house. Jake hands me a pair of old sneakers, just my size. I take them and immediately put them on. He leads me to the kitchen where we have a silent meal together. It is just some kind of gumbo soup. It isn't bad, I just do not have an appetite when I am around Jake. All I see is him in his wolf form, tearing my leg open. I force myself to replay this over and over until my fear becomes more of a numb feeling. A sickening acceptance of my current situation. I'll play along for now Jake, but trust, I will not be here after my two weeks are up.
After a very awkward meal, Jake stands and tells me to put the dishes we used in the sink for the kitchen staff to clean later. I did as I was told, and followed him out of the room. Jake turned to climb up a very familiar staircase. Every step hurt my body more and more, I am still overly exhausted. Feeling completely numb emotionally and physically. One step at a time, I really start to take in Jake's physique, at least from the back. He has broad shoulders and the perfect body. Not overly muscular (even though I know he's the strongest person here) but not tiny either. Wearing normal clothes but I know the secret he holds. Jake lead me back to the bedroom I was once locked in and escorted me in.
“This is your room, which from the smell of it you have already been in. Look, I don't know what all happened when you first arrived, but you need to get a grip that you will be staying here. It doesn't matter if you run, I will find you. If you fight me, I will fight back. If you disrespect me, I'll kill you. I don't care if you react or talk back to the other guys, but you will have to deal with their consequences. For now, you look gross and smell worse. I had someone bring in a few clothes for you to wear and there are utilities in the bathroom to use now.”
I stood there, just staring at Jake. He means every word he said. He didn't even hesitate on the fact that killing me is an option to him. Why did he even bring me here if I am that disposable? Just have me killed instead of dragging me all the way out here.. My blood began to boil, and from the way Jake stood straight up and zeroed in his stare on me, he could tell.
I balled my fist, preparing for whatever happens and spoke,
“Jake, why am I here?”
“Because you are my mate. But I don't do the whole mates thing so I will keep you around to fulfill my needs, clean behind me and run my business from time to time.”
“So Gabe was right. So why don't I feel some weird attraction to you? If we are 'mated' like you say we are, shouldn't there be some kind of connection between us?”
“Oh Sam, you do have an attraction for me, but it's masked because you are a human. Your entire mindset of finding a lover is completely molded into the human world. If you were raised with the knowledge of the existence of werewolves, things would be different. Give it time, you won't even be able to contain yourself around me. Now, take a shower and get some rest. Tomorrow starts your training. I will be checking in on you periodically so don't do anything stupid. This door will remain unlocked, DO NOT TRY ME.”
After his threat, he turned and walked out the door, shutting it behind him. I did not hear a click indicating he locked the door just as he said. As soon as I heard him walk away from the door, I fell to my knees. Tears started streaming from my eyes as I silently wailed. Trying to breathe, I realized I was holding my breath that entire exchange. Everything hurt and I feel extremely heavy.
Laying on the floor in fetal position, sobbing for what felt like forever. I finally sat up, wiping away my tears, the existence of my weakness. Standing up, allowing the blood to flow back into my legs that feel like jello now, I wobbled to the bathroom. I stared at myself in the mirror as I undressed. My body covered in dirt, dried blood, cuts and bruises. My lip is busted and my eye is still blood shot red from what I assume was caused by Seth. Tears started to form, burning as they filled my eyes.
