I woke up to a car door slamming. It scared to s**t out of me and I shot up completely forgetting the state of my body. I screamed in shock and grabbed my leg. I am in utter pain. Jake walked away from the car and into the main house where I just escaped from not even a day ago. The car door open unexpectedly behind me, and I nearly fell out before someone caught me. They pick me up bridal style. I look up wondering if it is Jake, but it is in fact Seth. At this point, I will take anyone but Jake. Seth carried me away from the house, and I started to get frantic. 'Where is he taking me? I can't fight in this condition.' Seth looked at my face, realizing I was staring behind him at the house with fear in my eyes.
"I told you to behave, Sam. You should've listened. Stop squirming, I'm just taking you to the pack doctor so he can patch you up. I can barely recognize you, you look pretty disgusting."
I tried to speak but it came out as a scratchy whisper. My throat was killing me. "Thanks, I really needed to hear that Seth. Just lay me down here, I'd rather choose death."
"I can't do that, Alpha's orders."
I just give him a stern face and stare at him. A few houses down, we arrive at the pack doctor who is ready for me. After an hour of examinations, tests, blood work, the doctor told me I would be fine. I just need a few stitches and to take antibiotics for a few days and take it easy on my leg.
“Will I be able to walk on it?”
“Well with the stitches, you should use crutches, but from what I have heard, you can do whatever you want, just don't go running. If you do, you will pop a stitch and you'll have to start over.”
“Thanks, Doc. Now that I have you alone, Can I ask you a question?”
“Sure.”
“You seem more level-headed then the others. Why are they all so disgusting and demand to be in control? I would like to think they are just as much human as they are dog, but that's not the case.”
“Well, Sam, Our wolves can be dominant to our normal selves if we have yet been mated. I have a wife and two pups, I have no desire to mess that up. Alpha Jake and his guys have not found their mate, meaning they are still searching for her. It's hard to hold your wolf back in the presence of a beautiful young woman like yourself when you are without a mate.”
“So they're just disgusting horn dogs? Great. Since you know my name, you obviously know what all has happened, any advice?”
“Hmm-” The Doctor then proceeded to close the door and sit beside my bed leaning towards me. “Sam, you are a human who has now been introduced to the darker species. This isn't a fairytale book. You want my advice, Run. And keep running. Keep fighting. Wolves have a charm about them so eventually you will give in unless you fight and make it out. But you didn't hear that from me, Yeah?”
“Didn't hear a thing.” I said while shaking my head in agreeance. The Doctor sat up and patted my good leg before getting up and leaving the room without looking sparing me a glance.
I finally have a moment alone to really think about all that has happened. I will get out of here. There must be a way. I take this time to strategize and plan, before I pass out due to over exhaustion and lack of nutrition.
I slept for an entire day. Waking up with an IV drip connected to my arm, I lean over to see that the digital clock next to me read 5:25am Tuesday. I loudly groan, feeling my body ache and my muscles scream at me for overdoing the past few days just to lay down for God knows how long. I am in pain but I also have not had this much sleep in a while. I lean over further to see an antibiotic pill and a paper cup of water next to the clock. Sitting up, I swallow it whole and drank the rest of the water.
Deciding it was time to start devising a real plan of escape, I attempted to get out of bed. This was not as easy as I thought. Genuinely, I am usually great at swallowing pain and not showing it from past traumas like losing my parents, so the fact that every move made me wince was saying something. I finally was able to stand with one hand on the wall. Pulling out my IV, I stumbled my way to the door.
Next to the door, there are basketball shorts, a sports bra and a t-shirt. I guess that's for me. Thankful for fresh clothes, I changed as quickly as I could before anyone walked in and got any ideas. Won't be able to escape this place until my leg gets better which should be in about two weeks. Two weeks of laying low, shouldn't be too hard.
