After two hours, we finally pull over to a random rundown bed and breakfast type place. Charlie says he knows the owner pretty well and can get me a phone to use in the office. Feeling a bit more freedom, I step out of the car and breathe in the fresh air. Following Charlie into the building, we stand by the front desk. This place looks even older on the inside. But as long as they have a phone I don't care.
I was asked to take a seat outside the main office so Charlie could explain the situation. I sat down and put my head in my hands, running my fingers through my knotted hair. The office door was shut and it was a few feet away but I could hear them clear as day, so much for privacy.
“Hey man! Whose the chick? She's looks a little rough to be out and about like that.”
“She's fine, has anyone called you about a missing female yet?”
“No but the phone's are down anyway. They wouldn't be able to.”
“Dammit, look I have been driving for hours and now have to clean up yet another mess, toss me a key to room 7 and keep me updated.”
“You got it boss!”
I didn't really like how this conversation went but I kept to myself, it could be worse. I could hear the floor creak, he must be about to open the door.
“Also, she thinks my name is Charlie, not Jake. So lets keep it that way.”
When I heard this my eyes widened and my legs started to shake. Hell, my whole body is shaking. You've got to be kidding me. What do I do?? Before I even had time to process this, Charlie, who I now know is Jake, as in the Alpha of the Red Baron Pack, walked out of the office. He seemed frustrated but plastered on a fake smile. He met my eyes and immediately crouched down to my level.
“Hey Stephanie, it's ok. Look, the phones are currently down but I know we are both exhausted so I got a room. You can take the bed, I'll take the old, uncomfy chair, ok? It'll be fine, these things happen.”
I frantically shook my head yes. If Seth and Gabe are his men, I don't want to stick around and find out how the Alpha is. My body cried as I stood up and followed him outside. Knowing I was going to have to run because I am not about to get locked into another room. I followed him to the door that has a 7 on it and made a comment that I left my snacks in the car. This is my moment. But Jake stops me, and told me to go lay down and he would grab everything I need. He grabbed my arm gently and walked me to the bed to sit down. Which I did and as soon as my butt hit the comforter, my entire body went numb. I have to find a way out. Mustering up whatever plan I could, I would make my escape when he is asleep. He said he was tired so if I can just stay awake until then, I might even be able to take his car.
The man that I now know is Jake spends the next 30 minutes trying to create conversation with me. I deflected as much as I could. Sitting on the bed, my back is all the way to the wall and I'm holding my knees to stay as far away from him as possible. Jake is on the lounge chair close to the bathroom, across from the door to the outside. It only took an hour for him to completely pass out. He was as tired and exhausted as he said he was.
