“She never wanted to leave?”. He asked in disbelief. It wasn’t something he expected. Why did she request not to leave the orphanage. It was always a wish of the children here to find a new family; a good one too, even those that passed the most desired age.
“No, she detested the idea. We all thought it was a normal reaction considering all that she had been through. She didn’t cause problems, but she wasn’t a quiet type. She was in fact very playful; you can attest to that, Jason”. And that was true, she was well known throughout the orphanage as a troublemaker, though a subtle one.
“I had a theory”. The officer broke the long silence. “But it was too far reached as she was a child then. But there is a possibility, young man, that something else happened in that house, something else entirely happened there”.
This whole revelation made Jason more confused and distressed. The officer left shortly after, claiming he had nothing more to say. He also didn’t want to know anything else, he felt hurt for some reason. They were friends almost all through their lives, and he knew nothing about her. The sister said some words he couldn’t clearly remember as he walked out of the gate. He felt reluctant to go home, but he had to. For all it was worth, he might be the only hope she had.
He made up his mind to forget about wanting to know more about her, but the talk about a stalker stopped him. He knew for a fact why she let that information out. She was scared and needed help, but also wanted him to be distracted. She was putting all her eggs in one basket, which was a mistake. It wasn’t a mistake, she was playing on his weakness, it irked him. He could file a complaint, but it would mean her entire history be out in the open. Only one person came to his mind when he thought of her stalker. Her father. But he couldn’t do anything about it because that would mean exposing all that had happened that night. Nothing made sense except that particular thought that always creeped into his head. He assumed the worst and that assumption could be true. That was his fear. It was true. That was a fact. He needed her away from him. He didn’t want to confront her. He feared her answer.
He needed to figure out her true personality. The smile that night, after her nightmare, still haunted him. Was she who he knew her to be all a façade?. He was worried. She could be dangerous, but even more dangerous to herself. She never proceeded to self-harm but she could snap. He needed to do something before it was too late.
Walking further and drowning in the noise of the busy street. He took notice for the first time that it was a sunny day. He made up his mind to go home. He had nowhere else in mind to hide at.

She was under the covers; she was on a lookout for the slightest sound. She felt fear for the first time in a long time that she could swear she tasted it. She didn’t fear him. she feared her husband. She feared the truth. She had played a game and she was very much aware he would have figured it out. She was sorry but she needed to protect herself. Everything was falling apart right before her eyes and she needed to protect herself. She didn’t want a confrontation from him, she had no will to look at a sad eye and that solemn tone. She had other emotion to put on at the moment. She was too worried for all that.
He was always the soft one, he went all out to protect her and she knew it was his weakness. He would not tell on her; he couldn’t do that. She was justified, all these years and she had a reason for her decision. No one looked at the greater good, no one saw how she ended the sufferings yet to come on a single night, even Jason. He would not understand her, but he would protect her. And she would ride on it.
