The First Battle Of Sarpi

316 Words
After the thirty men grabbed another wooden lid, they just waited for Sarpi's order to run to the other company of spearmen for support. Again Sarpi was surprised by the lack of coordination. They want to run 25 kilometers to the defense point. And when they got there? Were they going to ask the enemies to wait a bit so they could catch their breath? Of course not. They would end up more hindering than helping. _We are not going to run, we are going to walk fast, and perhaps, before the sun sets we will have arrived there. Sarpi said in an authoritative tone. _But sir! what if they break in there? said one of them questioning young Sarpi's decision. _I already gave my order, if you not will follow it, then I can make you a tribal, or a slave, or worse. This goes for all of you guys. Everyone just nodded in acknowledgment, even the "rebel" was silent as a tree, for he knew that the Count gave full approval to the leader of the spearmen to do what he thought most convenient. Then they began to move towards the position the bandits were trying desperately and decisively to dominate. Meanwhile the company of spearmen who asked for support were trapped inside their own keep, fighting tooth and nail so that the bandits would not take their walls and drive swords down their throats. As Sarpi approached the place, he could see at least 300 bandits, all in heavy armor, not to mention the peltasts who were at least 100. If he went ahead, he knew he would be wiped out, so as it was close to dusk, he told his men to lie down where they were to rest for a while until the sky was completely dark, as he had some ideas, and wanted to see if would work or not.
