The Search for My Mate

THREE | The Big Day

Michelle POV 

I woke up early on the morning of August 29th and realized that the day was finally here. I was finally 18. I began to get more and more excited about my party later in the day. I got up and began getting ready for my day. After my shower, I was surprised by my parents in my room waiting on me holding a cupcake with a small pink candle on top of it. They both yelled “Happy Birthday!” and I blew out my candle. They told me that they were excited about the party, and to get dressed and head down for breakfast. When I arrived at the breakfast table there were more people than usual, and everyone was telling me happy birthday. When I finally got seated, an omega named Lucy brought out my food. I excitedly ate and went for a morning run. By the time I was done with my run, I needed a snack then I headed upstairs with Jade to get ready for my party. By the time we were done, we both had our hair done, and Jade had her makeup done. It was 3 pm and I had no clue how time went by so fast. I slipped into my dress and turned to Jade. “Are you ready for this?” she asked me. “I have no clue but I guess we are about to find out” I replied as we headed out of my room and down the stairs. The party was set to begin at 5 pm, but most of the people were there already. I walked around with my father and was introduced to many alphas and their children. I was enjoying myself until a boy from another pack bumped into me and spilled red juice all over my dress. I decided that even though my dress was ruined, I wouldn’t let it ruin my night. I walked over to a nearby table and began to wipe the juice off. While I was doing this I heard the front door opening and more guests entering the room. I turned to go introduce myself when my eyes locked with a tall, handsome man. He had black curly hair and beautiful blue eyes. Suddenly my inner wolf began to speak to me, “Mine, that’s our mate, go get him”. I began to walk towards him when a small woman appeared from behind him, she was pale, with brown hair and eyes. Only then did I realize that she was marked, and so was he. My head began to spin in circles, I didn’t know what to do. My mate had marked and been marked by another woman. The next thing I knew everything went black. I woke up the next day in the pack hospital, with my mother and father on one side of me, and Jade on the other. I can’t believe that this would happen to me. When I looked at my parents my mother immediately began asking me questions, but I had no answers for her. “Honey, what happened? Are you okay?” the only thing I could do was look at Jade and hope that she would get the message. “Alpha, Luna, Do you mind if I have a moment alone with Michelle?” she asked. My mother looked at me and I nodded in approval, then they got up and left. As soon as they were gone the only thing I could think to do was cry. I then explained everything that happened the night before to Jade. “Oh Michelle, I am so so sorry. Do you know who he was?” “No, I only saw him for a brief moment, and once I saw her, and their markings, I fainted.” Jade then hugged me tight and held me. 

Jade POV

I can’t believe its finally here, my best friend is turning 18 and will finally get to meet her mate. I am beyond excited for Michelle and I know that it may mean that she will have to leave, but I also know that a wolf’s mate is their life long companion. I will miss her like crazy, but I know that it is what’s best for her. We both began getting ready for the party and before we knew it, the time had flown and it was here. Michelle looked so beautiful in her dress, and I was happy for her. We both headed downstairs and she began to greet party guests and thank them for coming. Meanwhile, I began to scope out the fresh meat in the house. I know they tell us to wait until we meet our mate, but what if I wait, and my mate didn’t, then I will look like an i***t because I waited. As I was walking around I found one very cute boy and began to have a conversation with him. Every few minutes I would look for Michelle to check on her, so my flirting was innocent. After about an hour, I looked around trying to find her and when I did I noticed she was staring at an alpha from another pack who just walked in. Then the next thing I know she is laying on the ground. I had no clue what happened so I panicked. I ran over to her and yelled for her parents. We rushed her to the pack hospital where they said she would be fine once she woke up. I stayed in the room with her the whole night. I felt so bad that she got hurt while I was off flirting, and I needed to know what happened. So the next morning when she woke up I was ready to ask her a billion questions. When her mother asked if she was okay, she just looked at me with the saddest eyes ever, and I knew I needed to talk to her alone. I asked the Alpha and Luna to give us a moment, and they gladly did. As soon as they were gone Michelle told me about the Alpha from another pack, and her wolf saying he was her mate, then the woman he was with, and the fact that they were both marked. My heart broke for her. Her biggest fear was always to be rejected by her mate, and now it has practically happened. When a wolf is marked it means that they belong to the person that marked them for life, and usually people only mark their mate, so I didn’t understand what was happening. I had to get to the bottom of it.
