Outside the apartment building, Charlotte made a call to Harrold's boss, Caroline.
"Do you know anything about Harrold's family background?"
"Harrold? He's an orphan. Grew up in a welfare home. Quite a good-looking kid, but oddly enough, no one ever adopted him."
An orphan?
Charlotte hung up, frowning in confusion. Convinced that there was more to his story, she then told Mason about seeing Harrold at Williams Jewellery.
The fact that he shared the Williams surname seemed too coincidental.
"Do you think Williams Jewellery is behind this?" Mason asked.
Charlotte nodded. "It's just a suspicion."
One thing was clear: Harrold's willingness to give up on his career indicated a deeper, possibly sordid, backstory.
