Dear Stary,
After a thorough review of your contract, I’ve decided not to move forward with your platform. I appreciate the offer, but there are several key points that raise significant concerns, which I’d like to outline.
Firstly, granting rights for the entire duration of copyright is too extreme. The options for authors to reclaim their rights are very limited, and the terms for ending the agreement are far too restrictive. Asking authors to repay their earnings over a three-year period, and potentially double for Premium Content, is simply unreasonable.
Moreover, the demanding schedules required to qualify for bonuses—such as writing 50,000 words a month and posting daily chapters—are unsustainable for me. The added pressure of having another writer take over my work if I fall behind is unacceptable.
There is also a lack of transparency in critical areas of the contract. Without clear timelines for payments or guaranteed financial reporting, I can’t be sure when or how much I’ll be paid. Significant deductions from potential revenue make it difficult to expect fair compensation for my work.
I also have concerns about the first right of refusal clause for future projects. The absence of a clear timeline or the option to decline an offer leaves me exposed to indefinite delays.
Finally, the confidentiality requirements and breach penalties are overly restrictive. Although financial penalties may be less harsh compared to other platforms, the overall risks to my rights and creative control are too significant.
While I appreciate the consideration of my work, I must decline participation for these reasons.
Best regards,
Lexi
