Dear Stary, Thank you for considering my work, but after a thorough review of your contract, I’ve decided not to move forward. There are several issues that I find problematic. First, the rights clause, which covers the entire term of copyright, is too restrictive. The limited ability to terminate the contract, especially with the requirement to repay all earnings over a three-year period, is too rigid. The possibility of double repayment for Premium Content only adds to this concern. Additionally, the required writing schedule for bonuses—such as daily chapter updates and 50,000 words per month—simply isn’t sustainable for me. The added pressure of another writer potentially taking over my work if I fall behind is unacceptable. The lack of clarity regarding payment schedules and financial reporting is also troubling. Without a clear understanding of when payments will be made or how much I’ll be paid, it’s difficult to trust that I’ll receive fair compensation. The first refusal clause for sequels or prequels, without a defined timeline or the ability to decline, is another concern. Finally, the confidentiality clauses and penalties for breach are far too restrictive, limiting my creative freedom. For these reasons, I must decline. Sincerely, Lexi
