Chapter 24
HaleyHaley peered at the countryside whisking by as Austin turned the SUV off the highway and onto a dirt path. Only a mailbox mounted to a fence post hinted at the home sitting at the end of a long, private dirt road that turned into a manicured gravel drive.
If he hadn't told her he’d be taking her to see his new home before meeting Kathleen, she would have wondered where on earth they were going.
As it was, her eyes drank in the surroundings until Austin killed the engine at the side entrance of a splendidly restored farmhouse.
"Here we are... my new digs," he said, pride reverberating in this tone. "Mom saw it last week and loved it. She’s anxious for us to stop by and see her sometime. She misses you."
"Oh, Austin. I’ve missed her, too. I definitely want to go with you
