Chapter 15 I followed the path, keeping my head low. Soon I was at an intersection leading into a road lined with buildings and structures so tall they seemed to brush the clouds. The setting sun rested in their midst, a lemon glow in the pastel watercolor. I was astonished at the beauty of the scene—glistening windows arranged in perfect squares and precise rows, tiny lights inside and twinkling and flashing. I kept up my quick pace, drawn to looming constructs before me. Above me wires ran everywhere, up and down, across, sideways, in loops and varying lengths, some connected to poles, others to the buildings themselves. They were for electricity, I surmised, providing light and energy. The air smelled like rust. Eventually, I crossed a long bridge of steel and concrete slabs and beams.
