Chapter 22: Wrongs RightedIlaman and Ilonnie stood behind Jerome when he led them into the Maca's office. Daniel rose and greeted first Jerome and then realized the couple were on edge, almost ready to bolt out of the door. He spread his arms wide.
“I am Maca and I issue my call.”
For a moment, the couple stood transfixed, staring at him, and then stepped into his embrace, murmuring, “My Maca, my Maca.”
The formalities over, Jerome gave a half-bow. “The Ops Room is expecting me. This couple will need a transport for returning to their home or whatever ye assign them and also a com.”
Ilaman and Ilonnie stared opened-mouthed at Jerome's retreating back as he walked out the door. The idea that their laddie-to-be could tell a Maca what to do didn't really register in their Thalian minds.
