THE ANONYMOUS TEXTER

1987 Words
The past few days have been hectic for Georgina. Various documents have been coming in and out of the CEO’s office as they reach the month’s end. Georgina had to work double to be able to do her job as an EA going undercover for the NBI. She was thankful for having a Senior Agent like Ricky. At the same time, Georgina felt sorry for him because, unintentionally, he had been at the receiving end of her stress. Georgina has been working at GenBio for a month now. Her investigation felt too slow for her. Georgina believed that by this time, she should have laid her hands on more solid evidence that would prove GenBio’s role in human organ trafficking. Georgina was in the middle of checking the last batch of accounting reports when she felt her phone vibrating in her pocket. She reached for it and almost forgot about the hidden camera behind her. Georgina took a quick trip to the toilet, the only place in the office without any hidden cameras on. She checked if all the stalls were empty and chose the farthest one from the door. It was a message from Ricky. Apparently, an unidentified body has been washed along the shores of Zambales. The local PNP said the body had gunshot wounds and was possibly assaulted before it was thrown into the sea. The body is already in the advanced decomposition stage and cannot be identified. Although a DNA test would be carried out, Ricky and another NBI agent would be traveling to Zambales to see if they can at least identify his belongings. Georgina’s heart began to beat loudly against her chest. Even without the confirmation, she somehow knew that the body belonged to Tinik, their informant who had been missing for more than a month now. Georgina started to throw up just thinking about what Tinik would look like if he had been in the water for that long. She shuddered at the possibility of facing her own death doing her assignment. Georgina tried to compose herself. She washed her face and rinsed her mouth before she went out of the toilet. Her hands trembled when she reached out for the door to the door of their office and her hands felt too weak to open it. Georgina lost her balance and felt an arm circling around her waist. “Georgina, you look pale. Are you all right?” Said an authoritative voice behind her. Georgina’s eyes got blurry, but she could tell it was her boss, Eric. Only he calls her that in the office, as the other employees call her Attorney Angeles. Georgina’s feet felt even more wobbly, knowing it would only be the two of them in the office. She kept thinking about how this man was capable of killing and hurting other people. Georgina panicked when, instead of guiding her to her desk, Eric began to drag her inside his office. Eric decided to carry Georgina in his arms when she felt her resistance. “W– what are you doing to me?” Eric could sense the fear in Georgina’s voice. He sighed and calmly explained to her what he was about to do. “I am going to put you down on the couch in my office so you can rest.” Georgina felt her back touching the soft couch. Eric put Georgina's head slowly on the armrest. Her eyes widened when she saw Eric taking off his coat. She automatically raised and crossed her arms to her shoulders, only to be embarrassed when Eric put his coat down to cover her legs. His hands did not even make contact with her skirt. “Seriously, Georgina?” Eric put his hands on his waist as he looked down at her. “I have been watching you the past few days and I witnessed how stressed you seem. I knew this would happen. Have you even had lunch today?” Georgina furrowed her brows and asked herself. She knew she had skipped breakfast. But did she eat lunch today? Her stomach grumbled as if to answer her question. She closed her eyes and heard Eric’s footsteps going to his desk. He picked up the phone and dialed a number. He heard him ordering a takeout dinner for both of them. Georgina wanted to refuse, but she knew she needed to eat something. She was lying down for a while when she felt her phone vibrating again. Georgina tried to open her eyes and automatically searched for Eric. She didn't know when he had done it, but the last batch of accounting files that she was working on before she went to the toilet was already on Eric’s desk. “Don’t even think about it. Go ahead and have some rest.” Eric told Georgina without taking his eyes off the files. Georgina checked her phone under Eric’s coat. Ricky texted to ask her if she was alright. Georgina closed her eyes. She felt a little relieved knowing that her colleagues at the NBI were at least watching her from the security and hidden cameras. Although Georgina does not always know where they are at any given time of day, she trusts that the other agents are always nearby, ready to assist her. Georgina tried to keep her senses awake, but she lacked sleep for days and had not eaten anything for the day. A few moments later, her body decided to take the much-needed rest for her. Eric almost dropped the stylus pen when Georgina snored loudly. He chuckled, watching her sleep on the couch. Among the EA that he has hired, Georgina is by far the most efficient and most hardworking. Eric did not actually give much thought to her educational background when he hired her. Seeing the quality of her work made him think that Georgina was overly qualified to be his EA. He started to wonder why she even applied for the job, considering her credentials weren’t all that bad. He made a mental note to him about promoting her to a more suitable position. About half an hour had passed and the food that he had ordered had arrived. Eric contemplated whether he should wake Georgina up or let her sleep. He looked at her face and realized that her lips still looked pale. Eric decided that Georgina also needed to fill her stomach with some food. “Georgina…Georgie…” Eric tapped her face gently. Georgina remained asleep, so Eric thought that she must be really tired. “Look at this little goddess snoring.” Eric smiled. He decided to just go back to his desk and wait for Georgina to wake up on her own, but Eric noticed the drool dripping from the corner of Georgina’s lips. Eric wrinkled his nose. He reached for some tissue paper and decided to wipe Georgina’s face. “Stop!!!” Georgina suddenly screamed. Eric couldn’t make sense of what happened, but he found himself falling on his side. His quick reflexes made him put his arm against the floor, making a loud thud. He closed his eyes when he felt his jaw and his elbow hurting simultaneously. He looked at Georgina and he saw her fist still up in the air. “Georgina!” Eric called out her name as he lay down on the floor. He did not know whether he should touch his jaw or his elbow. “Did you just punch me??” Georgina sat up abruptly, making her dizzy. She put her hands on her head as she tried to open her eyes slowly. The first thing she saw was Eric, sitting on the floor. He kept on rubbing his elbow, while fresh blood dripped from the corner of his mouth. “S-sir! Why are you on the floor?” Georgina walked towards him and helped him get up. “Do you really have to ask?” Eric refused his help and got up on his own. Georgina pointed at the tissue Eric was holding and told him about the blood in his mouth. She realized that she had drool on her mouth when she touched her own mouth to show Eric where the blood on his face was. Georgina’s eyes widened. She reached for some tissue and wiped her mouth with it. Georgina apologized to her boss, feeling embarrassed. She scratched her head when she realized that Ricky and the other agents must have witnessed her sleeping on the job too. She bit her lips, knowing she would be in huge trouble when she got home. “Forget about it. I ordered pizza, dig in.” Eric opened the box and the smell of pizza got stronger, filling the place. Georgina wanted to take two slices and eat them like a sandwich but stopped and reminded herself how much embarrassment she had put herself into. She reached for a slice but wondered about getting poisoned. Georgina closed her eyes when her stomach made another rumbling noise. She left everything to fate and took a bite. Both of them had two slices each when her phone vibrated again. She excused herself to use the toilet, but instead of using the one outside their office, Eric offered his personal toilet to her. Georgina hesitated, but Eric insisted until she finally agreed. She took out her phone and noticed that she had received a text from an unknown number. Georgina sighed, thinking it was just one of those text scams. She was about to ignore and check it later when she read the first line from the notification banner. Georgina’s hands trembled when she opened the text to see the rest of the message. I KNOW WHO YOU ARE, AGENT ANGELES. I WATCH YOU EVERY DAY. I KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE. “f**k!” Georgina jumped when Eric knocked on her door. “Are you okay?” Georgina put the toilet seat down and sat there for a moment, thinking about her next course of action. She got startled when Eric suddenly screamed. Then, he began banging on the door asking for Georgina to come out. “f**k this psycho!” She cursed under her breath. Eric screamed louder when the light suddenly flickered. Georgina heard him asking for help, but she thought he just wanted to lure him out. When Georgina heard the static on her earpiece, she realized that all the signals must have been jammed. The lights kept on flickering and started to give Georgina some headaches. She mustered all the courage that she could and decided to give Eric the fight that he wanted. When Georgina opened the door, she expected him to attack her. But instead, Eric ran and hugged her. She felt Eric's whole body trembling in fear. Georgina couldn’t make sense of what was happening. “S– Someone was in my office.” Eric hid behind Georgina, his hand clutching the back of her clothes tightly. Georgina wagged her shoulders, asking Eric to let go, but he wouldn’t. They were both startled when a hooded person appeared in the doorway and threw a punch at them. Thanks to Georgina’s quick reflexes, she was able to grab the attacker’s wrist and throw punches at the torso. The attacker hit his back against the bathroom wall before he fell on the floor. Georgina was about to throw kicks when cold hands grabbed her wrist. “I– I can’t breathe. P-please, don’t leave me here.” Georgina cursed when the attacker got up and ran away. Her anger quickly changed into worry when he noticed Eric’s face had turned pale. He also started to sweat profusely, clutching his chest. Georgina ran to his side and helped her stand up. Eric kept his head bowed down as if he was embarrassed. Georgina realized why when she looked down and realized something. Did he seriously wet his pants?
