Chapter 10

Rose's p.o.v

I ran as fast as I could manage without tripping on branches and uplifted roots, tightly holding our clothes in my teeth. Desperate to get there soon, 'Rose calm down, your going to hurt yourself if you keep running that fast.' Kari mind linked me as he struggles to keep up with me in his human form, I ignore him as I keep running needing to save them, before we get to the clearing I give the clothes to Kari and run into the clearing. The scene in front of me was something I almost couldn't comprehend, Kai unconscious and hurt, Belli struggling against another female vampire. The female was starting to overpower Belli, no… not my brother… not my best friend, this female is dead! I howl as I run at them both, Belli barely backs up in time as I lunge at the other female and I tear off her arm, she screams and I enjoy the sound. I tear her other arm off and she screams more, and I bring my jaw down on her skull and start biting down slowly, making sure her death is as slow and painful as possible. Before I bite down all the way Kari puts a hand on my head, "Rose… let her go. I want to see her before she dies, now. Let go!" He says in a firm tone, I reluctantly let go and whine softly as he pulls her up on her feet, she looks at him and her eyes lit up. "Kari! You came in time, that wolf almost killed me! You just saved me, oh thank you so much-" Her eyes land on me and she frowns at me, "why is she still alive? What's going on Kari?" She looks at Kari and freezes, he smiles slowly at her and puts his hands on her head, "for harming this pack, who is an ally of my family, and attacking the vampire princess… you are to be immediately executed, oh and that wolf is my mate." 

Kari's p.o.v

I quickly snapped her neck, and pull her head off her body. I look at Rose and I look at the ground, "sorry Rose… but it was a vampire deal as soon as she laid a hand on Belli… if she hadn't I'd have let you kill her… forgive me?" I asked softly, hoping she would, she walked toward me in her beautiful wolf form. She shifts back and puts her clothes on, "that doesn't matter right now. We need to get the pack out here to help Kai, and fast. He has broken ribs and they'll need to be fixed." She says as she walks toward Kai and sits next to him, I feel bad for her and I feel her sadness as she throws her head back and howls a long sad wolf song. Before I know it half the pack is here handling Kai gently, taking him to the pack doctor to fix his ribs, I follow the crowd back having lost sight of Rose and she has her wall up, I can't feel or locate her but have a hunch she's with Kai. As we get back to the pack doctor's office, I get pulled aside by Belli. "Listen Kari, I know what's going through your mind right now and I know your not going to listen to me but please give Rose her space right now. She's hurting and doesn't know how to react right now, just leave her alone. And no this isn't from Rose herself, I just know her that well." She walks away before I can respond, I nod to myself and walk toward the pack house, feeling like I should avoid the Alpha's house for now. I sit outside on the stairs and call Astrid back, "hey… we dealt with Karissa and she's been executed. She attacked my mate's brother and Belli, so as prince I handled the situation… I figured you would say that… wait Rose has to come too? But you know everyone will… yes… it is custom… okay I'll let her know, I'll bring everyone involved when they're well enough. Give us a few weeks, but if my father can't wait that long then tell him to come here." I hang up before she can respond, well crap looks like this is going to get really serious. 'My lovely Rose, I can't hear you or locate you. And I'm going to give you space, but I need you to know that in the next few weeks we need to go home. Belli and Kai need to come as well, or else the vampire council will be here… just thought I'd let you know.' I stand up and jog through the forest, I reach the river and follow it till I reach the waterfall and see a child crying and sitting by the waterfall. I freeze not sure if this child is a wolf or other child, I slowly approach the child and they look up at me. She blinks and sniffles, "umm… little girl are you lost? You okay?" I say in the most soothing voice I can muster up, she rubs her eyes and nods holding her arms out to me. I pick her up and she hugged my neck tightly, "m-my mommy died, and daddy told me to run before I died too. He was a scary scary before he ranned after something." The way she's talking I'd say she's very young, too young to be all alone out here where anything could hurt her… like when me and Rose met. "Little girl, what's your name?" She shivers and snuggles against me, "m-my name is Sunflower… I'm so scared." I look at her clothes, torn little bits of fabric barely cling to her little body. My nose tells me she's a shifters child, I shake my head and put her in my shirt hoping that would warm her up a bit. After she stopped shivering I look down at her only to find her staring at me in wonder, "Sunflower, did your parents turn into things… like a wolf or birds…bats?" I asked her hoping to find answers, she nodded and smiled a little, "well daddy was always being a wolf but not mommy, she didn't change but she was always reading her books and healing people." Ah that's what wasn't adding up, she smells like shifter but also something else, a witch and a wolf mated? That is rare, they usually dislike each other and generally avoid each other… I smile at Sunflower and pat her head softly, "my name is Kari, can you say that?" She thinks for a second and frowns. "Karni? Karii?" She asks, I smile at her attempts at my name and ruffles her hair. "Very close, call me what you want." She lays her head on my chest and drifts off to sleep, "daddy Karni." She whispered as she fell asleep, I hold her closer while I walk back toward the pack, well won't Rose and the rest find this interesting. 

Rose's p.o.v

I sit in my room, finally after a good two hours of blocking him off I release the the wall and collapse on my bed, god that is a major effort. I heard him and I'm just not ready to face vampires, especially outside of my home turf and on their land. I shake my head and get up, no I need to be active right now… okay no I need a twenty course meal I'm so starved. I opened my door and walked down the stairs, as I reached the last few steps Kari walked in, he looks at me and walks toward me. "Umm… here, I remembered that you love these burgers… I got five but only three are left." As he hands me the bag, I feel those shocking tingles go up and down my body, I look at the bag and smile at Kari, "thanks… wait why is there only three left?" I asked tilting my head to the side a bit wondering what happened to the other burgers, when I noticed some movements in his shirt and see a little girls head pop out of his shirt and look at me. "Daddy Karni… who's that pretty girl?" She asked who I assume is Kari that she's talking to, he patted her head gently and says in a soothing voice, "that is mommy Rose, Daddy Karni's mate." I stare at them, what is going on here? 'Kari what do you mean daddy, or mommy? What's going on?' I mind link hoping I can get answers from him, 'I went into the forest and jogged up the river, and found her by the mini waterfall up there crying. Her mother was murdered and her dad told her to run before he shifted and chased something in the woods. That's her story...I feel bad for her and responsible for her, I want to take care of her. Saved her like I did for you when you were little.' I feel my eyes widen at the thought of raising a girl Kari found alone in the forest, I look at the little girl and take note of her details. She looks to be about five or six years old, she has golden eyes with brown flakes and green highlights, I can’t tell her skin and hair color from dirt covering almost all of her face and neck also her hair. "Mommy Rose, can I have a bath? I’m itchy.” I look at Kari, he looks at me and we both nod 'lets get her washed up and see what we can find out from her, maybe some of her pack survived and can take care of her… if not we can take her in.’ Me and Kari walk up the stairs with Sunflower snuggled in Kari’s shirt, running a luke-warm bath we put her in, I hold her torn little tattered rags of a dress she had on as Kari scrubs dirt off of her and her hair. “Wow, such pretty hair you have Sunflower. It’s almost as red as my sisters hair, beautiful scarlet matching a blood moon.” Kari said to her smiling as he washes her hair with some shampoo and conditioner so I sit next to them and smile at Sunflower, “so Sunflower, tell me, do you remember what pack your daddy was in before he chased something into the woods?” I asked looking at her, taking note of her lightly tanned skin and hair, “well… mommy didn’t like me around the other kids, because she wasn’t a wolf too. She didn’t like them but loved daddy… she always says ‘those Straight Arrow mutts always insult me, my mate and child.’” I almost fell into the tub at the pack name she said, Straight Arrow pack? No one’s heard from them in a while. “Tell me… what did your daddy chase into the woods?” I asked shaking a little, please don’t let it be what I think it is… “Daddy was chasing a bird into the woods, a bright bird that made the woods burn.” Oh no… I knew it, the famous Phoenix murder pack was taken out by their own pray.
