Chapter IX: Stay Away

Bryna’ POV

            Lazaye followed me inside the house.

“Werewolves don’t exist, Lazaye. You have to stop believing everything you hear!”

“I know… but let’s talk in here.”

She pulls me inside a room next to the kitchen.

“I have something else to tell you.”

“What else is it, Lazaye?”

“You will turn into a werewolf on the next full moon.”

“A WEREWOLF! Lazaye, this is not a joke…”

“No, Bryna’. I am serious… So serious!”

“You mean to tell me… on the next full moon… I will become a werewolf,” I yell at my best friend.

“Bryna’, I know it is a lot to take in right now… But yes, because the werewolf bit you… You will change.”

“Ryan, can this be undone… I don’t want this!”

“No, I am sorry Bryna’… This is your life now.”

“Ok… Where is this werewolf? I need to find him! If he is part man and part wolf… He can tell me why he bit me!”

“I am pretty sure he will tell you.”

“Lazaye, do know who bit me!”

Someone knocks on the door, and says, “Lazaye, open the door.” She opens the door and Ryan walks in. Ryan says, “We know who bit you… but we can’t tell you that… He has to explain it to you. I can tell you that you mean a lot to him.” Lazaye says, “Ryan!” He says, “Bryna’, werewolf bites people as a form of bonding. The Moon Goddess has blessed each werewolf with a mate… as a human, you would call them your soul mate… It’s like love at first site. Once we meet our mate, we mate and mark them in order to let other people know that they are taken. Sometimes it doesn’t always happen this way. Some werewolves bite their mates out of fear of losing them or jealous.” I say, “So you are saying that the wolf bit me because I am his mate. The reason he did this is out of fear and jealous…” Ryan says, “I don’t know… I was just giving you and example.” I say, “Ok, so let me get this straight in order to understand all of this… Is Lazaye your mate?” He says, “Yes, she is.” I say, “Did you mark her?” He says, “No, I haven’t but it doesn’t mean that I haven’t come close to doing it when we were mating… I just want her to make the decision for herself.” I could see that this made Lazaye happy. She says, “Bryna’, I just found out about their kind yesterday.” I stood up from the lounge chair and says, “I understand… Ryan, I want to go back to the resort.” He says, “Ok.”

            I left the room and went back to the guess room. Travis was seating on the bed and says, “Your back… another secret meeting with Ryan’s brother.” I say, “Listen, we have three more days together… I don’t want to argue with you. Nothing happened between Ajani and I.” He says, “I don’t want him around you.” I say, “Well, that would be kind of hard since he is Ryan’s brother, and we are in their home.” He says, “I want to go back to the resort.” I say, “Well, me too. Ryan will take us back now.” He says, “Great!” He gets up and we walk out of the guess room.

When we exited out of the house, Ryan’s mom and sister were standing with Lazaye and Ryan at his truck. Ms. Charlotte says, “Bryna’ I am so sorry to see you leave us. I hope we didn’t scare you away.” I say, “No, Ms. Charlotte, you didn’t scare me away. Thanks for having us in your lovely home.” She gives me a hug. Kalani says, “I thought we would have time to go shopping.” Lazaye says, “We can do that tomorrow. We don’t have nothing plan.” Kalani says, “Great, I’ll just come pick you guys up in the morning and we can spend the day together.” I say, “Sounds good.” I wanted to see Ajani, but he was not around. Lazaye and Kalani started to talk about shopping. Ms. Charlotte says, “Ryan, can I talk with you for a quick moment.” Ryan and his mother walk several feet away from us, but for some reason I could still hear their conversation.

Ms. Charlotte: Why are you letting her leave? He won’t be happy about this.

Ryan: I know Mom… But she asks to leave…

Ms. Charlotte: You should at least mind-link him.

Ryan: No, I am not… He caused this so he has to fix this on his own. I am not keeping his secrets anymore. Mom, you have to tell him to tell her before I tell her the truth.

Ms. Charlotte: No, son… He has to be the one to tell her… He just needs more time.

Ryan: Time is not on our hands… She will shift in the next two weeks…

Ms. Charlotte: I know, son… I’ll mind-link him… He will not be happy that you let his mate leave without him knowing.

Ryan: He will get over it.

            Ryan walks back to the truck while we were entering the backseat. Once Travis shut the door, he grabbed my hand, kissed the back of my hand, and placed them inside his hands. He whispers, “I’m sorry about earlier.” Before I could reply, Ryan says, “I know it is last minute, but we are going to have a candlelight dinner on the beach tonight.” Lazaye says, “That should be fun… But I didn’t bring anything sexy to wear.” I say, “Don’t worry about it… I think I got something back at the resort for you to wear.” She says, “Thanks.” Travis says, “Ryan, that’s a good idea… When did you have time to arrange the dinner?” Ryan says, “Ajani took care of it.” I could tell that Travis was not happy about that… Once we reach the resort, Travis says, “Ryan, I need to talk with you.” Ryan says, “Sure, come to our room.” Lazaye says, “How about yall get ready in our room. Bryna’ and I will get dress in her room.” Ryan says, “Ok. No problem.” We went to our suite so Travis could get his outfit for tonight. The boys went to Ryan’s room while we went to my room.

Travis POV

            Once we entered Ryan’s suite, I sat on the couch and Ryan poured us a glass of whiskey. I didn’t waste no time to talk with him about his brother.

“Bro, what’s up with your brother… Is he trying to make moves on my fiancé?”

I could tell that I caught him off guard because he spit out his drink.

“What, Travis! What do you mean?”

“Your brother seems to be always around Bryna’… So, is he trying to make moves on my girl?”

“No, he is not Travis. He is just a nice and caring guy.”

“I want you to tell him to stay away from her.”

“Travis, he is my brother, and we are in my home country… I can’t tell my family to stay away from us. I bring yall here to meet my family.”

“I know, Bro… But I don’t like the way he looks at her or interacting with her.”

“Travis, you know that Bryna’ don’t like controlling or jealous men.”

I started to get upset because who the hell do, he thinks he is… Telling me what my woman like and don’t like.

“Ryan, listen… I am thankful for you bring us here… I just don’t want your brother around Bryna’. I am asking you to tell him to stay away from her.”

“I can’t do that… My family will be here for my dinner party on Thursday because I plan to propose to Lazaye.”

“s**t! I am so sorry, Bro… I didn’t know.”

“I know. Bryna’ loves you so don’t worry about my brother.”

            I down my shot of whiskey. I know that she loves me, but we have not been on good terms lately. I can feel that we are becoming distant.

“I know she loves me, Bro. I can feel that we are becoming distant. Her feelings may have changed for me.”

“Travis, have you talked to her about your feelings.”

“No not really, I have been working a lot. This new case will open the door for a partnership at the firm. I want to give her everything she wants.”

“I know you do Travis. I think you should talk with her about how you feel. You gotta make sure that she feels that she is your number one priority.”

“My work schedule makes that very hard. We don’t call or see each other the way we use too.”

“I could tell and wanted to ask about it. I just didn’t want to pry in your business.”

“I get it, Ryan. That’s why I was so happy that you planned this vacation for all of us. I was so mad that I couldn’t reschedule my meeting with my client. I knew once Bryna’ saw my work stuff that she was pissed. I think she is going to break up with me.”

“Travis, don’t think that… Try to make your meeting quick so you can get back to proving to her that you love and want to be with her.”

“That’s my plan…”

“Then you should have nothing to worry about.”

Ryan and I talked about work and relationships while we prepared for our candlelight dinner with our ladies.
