Kirtland AFB, New MexicoAmber leaned against the wall. Karen should have been here, not home with Jerry. During the call, Jerry's voice echoed in the background; along with others talking excitedly. Brandon hadn't mentioned any calls from her in a day or two. Karen had never kept secrets from her before. Something was different, and there was no way to find out what from here.
Alex walked over and hugged her.
Her stomach tingled. Was this how Karen felt with Jerry? She looked up.
Alex gazed down at her. He gave her a quick kiss on the top of her head.
She wanted to pull away; and didn't want to, at the same time.
As he pulled away and took her hand, she thought he was going back into the meeting. After all, they needed to be there. When he kept walking, she started to pull back.
