SherrySherryHis name is Ashraf, she came to find out. He is from Afghanistan. He is loud, boisterous, overly confident, foreign in a way that is slightly disconcerting to her, and hot. He is a senior at Georgia State, studying business, came with his family to the U.S. as a refugee 6 years ago, and has asked Sherry on a date. She goes through the list of what she already knows about him, obsessively.
He had approached her last week, one day during afterschool, while they were both outside supervising their classes on the playground. He mentioned it so casually, offhand, as if it were the most natural thing in the world, the two of them having lunch. If it is, why is Sherry mulling over it, and considering retracting her “yes”?
