Robert and Emma are sitting on the sectional sofa, partly reclined, in near darkness as the last rays of a perfect sunset glows on the eighty-four-inch screen before them. The ten minutes of the YouTube video stands as the quietest and most restful period of their entire day. The image goes completely black, then credits roll. He brings up the lights slowly with a practiced touch on the remote, carefully placing it on a captain console opposite Emma when done.
She sips on her Mai Tai, then poses, “Do you think Jillian will be safe?”
He squeezes her hand within the embrace they shared during the film in assurance, saying, “She not only has Bascom with her, but also a nine-millimeter between the front seats.”
