Chapter 10 Jillian Graves wakes at five in the morning to Alexa playing “Crimson and Clover”. James is already up and dressed, sitting on the side of their bed. She thinks of how urgently they need to go back into San Francisco and retrieve more of his clothes, as he is living out of his student backpack. She rises to sitting and is close enough for morning niceties, so she lends her lips to that end. “Morning,” she beams to him. “What is going on? I’m awake!” He pierces her amber eyes with his baby blues, saying, “It’s time you had your surprise that I promised you yesterday. You waking up now is only part of it.
