At first, I thought my eyes were betraying me. I blinked, but when I opened them, the figure was still there. It stood as still as the shadows that he blended in to. Instantly, I yelped and blocked May from his sight though the shadows made it next to impossible to really distinguish which one of us he was watching.
I didn’t know what to think in that moment. Had he followed me despite my careful watching? Or did he already know where we lived? Now that he was here, what was he planning to do?
“Sissy, what’s wrong?” she demanded feeling the panic that coursed through my veins.
“There’s someone outside!” I said to her.
She risked a glance around me before she shrank back into place.
