The morning light in Sydney grew brighter as the clouds slowly moved away. Ethan Kane’s penthouse felt calmer after the second attack, but the broken balcony door and scattered marks on the walls were clear signs that danger was getting closer. Ethan used his powers quietly to fix what he could. Pieces of glass floated back into place, and the door became strong again. He worked with steady hands, his face calm but his mind busy with many thoughts.
Sophia Reed watched him from the sofa. She had changed back into her black dress from the night before, now cleaned with Ethan’s help. The famous actress looked tired but determined. Her phone kept lighting up with messages from her manager and team. The outside world was calling her back.
“I have to go soon,” Sophia said, standing up and walking to the window. She looked out at the busy harbour below. “My manager thinks I had too much to drink at the party. I told him I stayed at a friend’s place. But I cannot hide here forever. I have a big interview this afternoon for my new movie.”
Ethan finished fixing the door and turned to her. His tall figure looked strong in the daylight. “It is not safe for you to go alone. I will follow you. You will not see me, but I will be close.” His voice was serious. He had seen too many good things destroyed by carelessness over the centuries.
Sophia turned to face him. “You do not have to do this, Ethan. You have lived hidden for so long. Why risk everything for me?”
He walked closer but stopped a few steps away. “Because your fall changed things. The hunters sensed both of us now. If I let you face this alone, they will take you. And I… I have been alone long enough to know what real loneliness feels like.”
They talked for a while longer. Sophia asked many questions about his long life. Ethan told her small stories how he watched the first ships arrive in Sydney many years ago, how he quietly helped build some of the city’s important companies without anyone knowing, and how he sometimes felt like a ghost walking through time. He did not share everything yet. Some memories were still too heavy.
Sophia shared her own life too. She told him about the pressure of being famous. The long hours on set, the fake smiles for cameras, the people who wanted to use her success, and the moments when she wished she could disappear. “Acting is my passion,” she said, “but sometimes I feel like I am playing a role even when the cameras are off.”
The conversation made them feel closer, even without touching. There was a quiet understanding growing between the man who had seen too much and the woman who lived in the bright lights.
Later that day, Sophia left the penthouse. She took a private car that Ethan arranged. From the shadows, Ethan followed her using his powers. He stayed on rooftops and in quiet corners, watching with sharp eyes. Sophia arrived at a fancy hotel in the city centre for her interview. Cameras flashed as she smiled and waved to fans outside. She looked perfect and confident, like the star everyone knew. No one could guess what she had been through the night before.
Inside the hotel, the interview went well at first. The reporter asked about her new movie and her future plans. Sophia answered with her usual charm. But then the questions became strange. “There are rumours you disappeared from the party last night. Some people say they saw strange lights in the sky. Anything you want to tell us?”
Sophia kept her smile but felt nervous. “It was just a long night. Nothing special.” She changed the subject quickly.
Ethan sensed trouble from his hidden spot nearby. One of the hotel staff members had unusual energy. He was a scout for the hunters. Ethan moved fast. He used his mind powers to make a small distraction a tray of glasses fell in the kitchen area. In the confusion, he got closer and quietly removed the danger. The man was made to forget what he saw.
After the interview, Sophia came out looking tired. She got into the car and spoke softly, knowing Ethan might be listening somehow. “I felt something wrong in there. Thank you.”
Back at the penthouse that evening, they sat and ate a simple dinner. The city lights were starting to shine again outside the windows. Sophia looked at Ethan. “This cannot continue like this. I have work, fans, and a life. But I also cannot pretend nothing happened.”
Ethan nodded. “We need a plan. I will teach you how to control the small powers waking up inside you. They can help protect you. And I will find a way to block the signal from your fall so the hunters have harder time finding us.”
As night came again, they spent time practicing small things. Sophia tried to move a cup with her mind. It was difficult at first, but with Ethan’s calm guidance, she made it slide a little across the table. They both smiled at the small success. It was not romance or big feelings in that moment it was two people from different worlds learning to trust and work together.
But far away in the dark parts of the city, more shadows were moving. The hunters were not giving up. They had picked up a new trace. And in the human world, Sophia’s manager was starting to ask too many questions about where she had really been.
Ethan looked out at the night sky. “This is just the start,” he said quietly. “We must be ready for what comes next.”
Sophia stood beside him, looking at the same stars. “Whatever comes, we face it. Together.”
The lights of Sydney continued to shine below them, unaware of the secret battle happening high above its streets.
