The first light of morning slowly filled Ethan Kane’s penthouse in Sydney. The heavy rain from last night had stopped, but the sky stayed gray and cloudy. Soft golden sunlight mixed with the gray clouds and shone through the big glass windows, lighting up the large living room. Broken glass from the fight still lay on the balcony floor, sparkling like dangerous diamonds. Ethan had used his powers during the night to clean most of the mess, but the broken door remained as a clear reminder of the danger that had come too close.
Ethan stood in the modern kitchen area, making breakfast quietly. He wore a simple black shirt and dark pants. His movements were smooth and exact, like someone who had done the same things for hundreds of years. He prepared eggs, fresh toast with avocado, and strong coffee. The smell of food filled the air and made the big space feel warmer. For over four centuries he had lived alone, eating only when he needed to pretend to be normal. Today was different. Today he was cooking for someone else.
Sophia Reed woke up on the wide comfortable sofa where she had fallen asleep. She sat up slowly, her long dark hair messy from sleep. She was still wearing Ethan’s big white shirt. For a moment she looked confused, but then memories of the night came back the fall from the sky, the fight, the way Ethan had protected her. She looked around and saw him in the kitchen. He looked so handsome and calm in the morning light, but she could see the careful way he watched everything.
“Good morning,” Ethan said in his deep calm voice without turning around at first. “You slept for a few hours. How do you feel?”
Sophia stood up and walked to the kitchen area. Her bare feet felt cold on the smooth floor. “I feel… strange. Like everything changed in one night.” She stopped near him and watched as he placed food on two plates. “You did not sleep, did you?”
Ethan finally turned to look at her. His dark eyes were sharp but softer than before. “I do not need much sleep. One of the small benefits of what I am.” He handed her a plate. “Eat. You will need strength today.”
They sat together at the long dining table near the window. The view of Sydney Harbour was beautiful even on this cloudy morning. Boats moved slowly on the water, and the Opera House looked peaceful. Sophia took a bite of the food and smiled a little. “This is really good. I did not expect an alien from the stars to cook so well.”
Ethan gave a small rare smile. It made his handsome face look even better. “I have had many years to learn human things. Cooking, business, hiding in plain sight. I own several companies in the city, but I stay away from the spotlight. Unlike you.”
Sophia’s phone, which Ethan had saved from the alley, suddenly started ringing on the table. She looked at the screen. “It is my manager, David. He must be worried. I disappeared from the party last night.” She answered the call carefully. “David, I am okay. Something came up… No, I am safe. I will explain later. Please cancel my morning meetings. I need some time.”
She ended the call and sighed deeply. “My life is always busy. New movie promotions, interviews, photoshoots. Fans expect me to smile and be perfect every day. But after last night, I do not know how to go back to normal.”
Ethan watched her closely. “You should try. Go to your normal life today, but stay careful. I will follow from a distance. If hunters come again, I will know.” He paused and then added quietly, “But I do not want you to leave yet.”
Sophia looked at him with warm eyes. “Then let me stay a little longer. Tell me more about your world. What was your home star like? Why did you stay here on Earth for so long?”
Ethan leaned back in his chair. He rarely spoke about his past, but with Sophia it felt easier. “My home was a place of pure light and energy. No rain, no cities like this. We observed other planets. When my ship crashed here, I was supposed to wait for rescue. But rescue never came. Years turned into decades, then centuries. I watched humans grow, fight wars, fall in love, and build places like Sydney. I learned to hide my powers. I made money through smart investments so I could live comfortably without questions. But I stayed alone. Getting close to humans always ended in pain when they grew old and I did not.”
Sophia reached across the table and gently held his hand. Her skin was warm and soft against his cooler one. “That sounds very lonely. Four hundred years is too long to be alone. Maybe I fell here for a reason. To remind you that you do not have to be alone anymore.”
The touch sent a strong feeling through Ethan. He had avoided all closeness for so many years, but Sophia’s warmth was melting the ice around his heart. He turned his hand and held hers properly. “You are dangerous for me, Sophia Reed. You make me want things I should not want.”
Before they could say more, Ethan suddenly tensed. His eyes narrowed. “They are coming again. Two of them this time. Closer than last night.”
Sophia stood up quickly. “What should we do?”
Ethan moved fast. He used his powers to close all the curtains and strengthen the protections around the penthouse. “Stay inside. Do not go near the windows.” He pulled her to a safer corner of the room.
From the balcony area, they heard movement. The hunters had returned, more prepared this time. One of them shouted in a strange voice, “Give us the fallen star, observer. She carries new energy we need.”
Ethan stepped forward to fight, but Sophia grabbed his arm. “Wait. Together.” She focused hard, and suddenly a small burst of her own hidden power came out a soft glowing light that surprised even her. It pushed one hunter back.
Ethan looked at her with new respect. “You have powers too. They are waking up because of me.”
The fight was short but intense. Ethan used furniture and his mind powers to throw the attackers out again. When it was over, he turned to Sophia, breathing hard. She had a small cut on her arm from a piece of broken glass. Without thinking, he touched it gently. Blue light flowed from his fingers, and the cut healed completely in seconds.
Sophia looked at her arm in wonder, then up at his face. They stood very close now. The morning light shone on them through a small opening in the curtains. Ethan could not hold back anymore. He leaned down and kissed her softly. The kiss started gentle but quickly became deeper, full of all the feelings they had been holding inside. Sophia kissed him back, her hands holding his shirt tightly. For those few moments, the dangers of two worlds disappeared. There was only the two of them.
When they pulled apart, Ethan rested his forehead against hers. “This is only the beginning,” he whispered. “More will come. Hunters, questions from your world, maybe even people who want to study me if they discover the truth.”
Sophia smiled bravely. “Then we face it together. My love from another star.”
Outside, the city of Sydney woke up to a normal day. Cars moved on the streets, people went to work, and boats sailed in the harbour. But high above in the penthouse, two souls from different worlds had started something that could change everything or destroy them both.
