I needed to clear my head and start making use of my time and myself. I had a small list started for Mack. I wondered if I should dress up, or just go for comfort. My phone started ringing. When picking it up I saw that it was Alexei’s phone number. I almost forgot about him; we did need to discuss my issues with the neighbor.
“Hey Alexei, I was just thinking of you.” He let out a deep chuckle and I swear my ovaries exploded.
“We need to discuss your court date and maybe how we can get you off.” I snorted and could not ignore the implications that were behind his tone. Part of me wanted to take him up on anything and everything that he had to offer.
“Really now, getting me off? Well, how about meeting you in town and you can start with buying breakfast for me and then we can talk about getting off.” I was just going to run with the flirting. After my cave adventure with Mackenzie and my torrid thoughts of the veterinarian, my hormones were in overdrive and if I didn’t do something about it, I was going to pop or end up dry-humping someone I didn’t want to.
“I can pick you up love, I also want to check on Hennessy.” I decided to slut it up and look a bit sexy for my lawyer. I know Jer probably has him on retainer and if he is hinting around about getting me off, I can show him the goods.
“How do you know about my big bird?” did my voice just drop into a husky purr? I really needed to do something about my celibacy.
“I handled the paperwork to get her ownership transferred to you.” My heart just melted a little bit, he managed to get me a big feathery dinosaur.
“Sure, come on by and you can visit her. I need to shoot some emails out to Mack and Jer and then I will meet you in the barn.” We hung up and I shot into my closet and grabbed a cute sparkly sweater that was goth girl chic, black and purple striped, I yanked out my black leggings with the lace up the sides, put my hair up into a messy bun, swiped on some eyeliner and mascara.
I looked cute and effortless, but still also looked like I put in some effort as well. Slipping on my combat boots, I spritzed perfume on my pulse points. Breezing through the kitchen, I looked around for Eugenia and didn’t see her. I left a note for her so she wouldn’t worry and left to go visit my emu.
Looking up at the sky, I saw that it looked like it was going to snow again and decided that I wanted to get back home before it did. Pulling out my phone, I checked the weather and saw we had a winter storm watch. Making a face, I pushed open the barn door and was greeted by the angry hisses from Hennessy the emu.
“Hello there, my girl, oh don’t be like that. Maybe I can find you a boyfriend. I also want to make sure that you are not going to jump the fences, so I’m having the sexy Highlander put up some hot wire in a nice paddock.” I reached out to pet her soft fluffy chest and she went to peck my hand.
Narrowing my eyes at her, I continued to stare at her, and she just kept glaring at me with this attitude. If she could talk, I’m sure she would be saying ‘b***h please’, she had so much attitude, I loved her. Picking up some more flakes of hay, I tossed them into her stall and scooped out some food for her. Checking her water, I tried to pet her again and she tried to karate kick my head.
Alright, we were going to have to work on her attitude problem. I sat on a stool by her stall and held my hand out with some feed in it. She continued to glower at me but saw I was not going to try and pet her. She decided that she would try and eat some of what I was offering her.
“So, Hennessy, welcome to Sheep’s Lodge. Apparently, we are both going to have to adjust to the newness of living here. You know I only came here a bit ago?” The bird could care less about the conversation, she finished her feed and was watching me to see if I would grab more.
Brushing off my hands, I grabbed a small pail and scooped out more feed. Holding it up to her, she went about eating again. This was a small step towards winning her trust. I was not sure what she could eat treat-wise, but I was planning on spoiling her.
“Looks like you have made a new friend.” Both of us turned our attention towards Alexei and my mouth dried up, he was wearing a long trench coat that looked like something out of a vampire movie, and he had tight black pants on, and an equally tight shirt that strained across his chest. Hennessy must have liked what she saw because she let out this sound that would have passed as the bird equivalent of a purr.
“You got that right girlfriend,” Alexei smirked and swaggered into the barn. He leaned down next to me and grabbed some food, and fed it to Hennessy as well.
“I guess you two like what you see. Good to know. I hate to break up this bonding fest, but I am famished, and we really need to get you off.” A blush crept up my neck and it was suddenly too warm in the barn. Alexei’s green eyes practically smoldered with lust.
I stood up and leaned into him. Oh man, he smelled wonderful, musk, hay, leather, and something deep and rich. I ran my hands up his chest and he growled, pushing him back against the wall. I fisted my hand in his soft hair and looked into his heavy-lidded eyes.
“Are you sure you want to unleash this beast girl? There will be no going back, and we will miss breakfast.” I pressed my lips against him and he tasted like smokey whiskey and mint. He groaned and I could feel his arousal through the fly of his pants. Hennessy let out a shriek and I pulled away from Alexei panting. We both stared at the emu, and she went back to preening.
“I guess we should get some breakfast and then discuss your case. Maybe we can resume this later. But first business and then pleasure.” I shivered at the way he said pleasure, he bent down to nip my earlobe. He adjusted himself and swaggered out of the barn. I watched him and let out a breath. Glaring at Hennessy, I stuck my tongue out at her for c**k blocking me. She blinked her large eyes and then decided to help herself to her food.
“You giant feather duster, that was not cool. I will remember this especially when you get a boyfriend and want to get your feathery groove on.” She continued to ignore me, and I could not ignore the rumbling of my stomach.
I slid into the black Range Rover and sank back into the deep leather seats. Alexei put his hand on my knee and pulled out onto the long drive and I was acutely aware of every bump, and his hand on my knee.
“So, what do we need to do to get me cleared from the charges?” I did not want to talk about getting off, especially seeing how his hand was creeping further north from my knee. The smirk on his face was proof that he knew exactly what he was doing.
“Well, Mackenzie said she was trespassing and threatening your dog. I love that dog and he is the sweetest thing. That woman is a menace. She has the constable wrapped around her pudgy finger but I’m enough of a pain in the ass that I can get you cleared of the charges.” His thumb was stroking the inside of my thigh now and I was finding it harder to concentrate.
“I need to get some security cameras installed on my property, especially in that area. I do not trust that woman to not retaliate.” I let out a gasp as he kneaded my thigh with his hand. Desire pooled between my legs, and I let out a whimper.
“I can make a call and get that done for you. You are right about her retaliating; your great Aunt was brought in as well and they found her not guilty of any charges. Needless to say, your neighbor was very unhappy with the result and made life miserable for your great aunt.” My ire flared up and thoughts of dumping that wench into a loch danced through my head.
“No murder. I can see you thinking of several ways to dispose of the body, and she is not worth it. Although I would have loved to have seen you let loose on her.” I snickered and he pulled up in front of a storefront bordered by potted evergreens. Climbing out of the car, I caught the scent of buttery bread and something sweet. My stomach let out another loud growl and Alexei put his hand at the base of my spine and led me into the small café,
“Welcome to Braeaisaig, our town isn’t a big city, but we have great folks, great food, and great ale.” The bell above the door let out a pleasant tinkle and we were greeted by a rosy-cheeked woman with flour staining her cheeks and a flowered dress.
“Ach, welcome to ye, ah ye look exactly like yer Auntie.” She enveloped me in a tight hug and I patted her back awkwardly.
“OK Fiora, let her up for some air. The usual spot and the usual spread but make it for two.” She patted my cheek and I stood there gasping for air. Alexei smiled and nodded to others who greeted him, and I just awkwardly waved and nodded at people. I was not used to people being so nice, and being nice for no reason.
We slid into the back booth and Alexei was looking at me and frowning. I gave him a weak smile and squeezed his hand, but he was still giving me a worried look. I wasn’t sure why he was so worried. I was the one that felt like I was being thrown at the wolves.
“I am just not used to people being so nice to me and not expecting anything in return. They are just being genuinely nice.” I looked down at my lap and Alexei squeezed my hand and made me look at him.
“I heard what you went through back home, and I am appalled that people would behave that way. As you know, not all of us are g like your neighbor, but overall, we loved Melinda and we will love you as well.” I felt the warmth flutter in my stomach, and I gave him a weak smile.
“Thank you, Alexei, it will take some getting used to, but I believe you are right, and I will learn to love it here.” Fiora placed some coffee on the table and flashed another smile in our direction. I could see there were still some curious glances, but they went back to eating or reading their papers. I liked that. They were curious, but they kept to themselves. I was going to love my new life.
