ABOUT THE BATH-HOUSE
Right on the edge of the village, across the road, on the bank of the Irtysh River, the second half of the orphanage was located – the female, or girls’ orphanage, where little enemies were held in a three-story brick building, the daughters of enemies of the people and spies. On this territory, in a separate structure with a large chimney, a bath house was located, where we were marched in order under the command of Toad’s underlings once a week to wash. We had never actually seen the girl enemies. They were not allowed into the yard during our visits. But when we returned past their house, steamed and with dirty clothes under our arms, from their dark windows on all three floors, we were watched by the many curious eyes of our underage partners in crime.
