BUTTNIK AND PERMOPIG
After successfully passing the exam for a lad, in other words enduring the “bicycle”, wettie (wet bed) and nudie (when I had all my clothes taken away from me) without any noise or complaints, after a week I went from the isolation ward up a floor to my sidekicks.
There was no warm welcome for me. I was interrogated by a guy with an interesting nickname – Buttnik, or Butthead. He was standing in for the boss. During the war he had served in the anti-desertion forces, which he was terribly proud of. In profile, Buttnik’s head resembled a two-sided hammer. His forehead and the back of his head were absolutely identical. The tiny, evil eyes were hidden under his overhanging forehead, and in a dim light they became imperceptible.
