The vision in the orb faded, leaving only the pulsating light and the weight of the mysterious voice lingering in the chamber. Lila and Ethan exchanged a glance, the gravity of the moment reflected in their eyes.
“This is bigger than I imagined,” Lila said, her voice trembling. “That vision... it was us, wasn’t it?”
Ethan nodded, his jaw tight. “And whatever this curse is, it’s tied to us. But we need to figure out if that voice was a warning or a challenge.”
As they stepped closer to the orb, the carvings on the pedestal began to glow. Symbols rearranged themselves, forming words in an ancient script. Lila instinctively flipped open the journal, her eyes scanning the notes.
“It’s a riddle,” she murmured, translating aloud. “‘Two hearts bound by love must choose: one will stay, and one will lose. Sacrifice binds, but freedom divides. What will you decide?’”
Ethan stared at her, the weight of the words sinking in. “It’s asking for a choice... a sacrifice.”
Lila’s chest tightened. “But what does it mean? One of us has to... give something up?”
Before Ethan could respond, the orb’s light intensified, and the voice returned: “Time is fleeting. Choose wisely, or lose everything.”
Lila’s pulse raced. “We have to figure this out—together.”
