Episode 10: The Key

211 Words
Ethan held the ornate key in his hand, its intricate design gleaming faintly in the dappled sunlight that filtered through the oak’s branches. It felt heavy, as though it carried the weight of countless secrets. Lila leaned over the rusted box, her fingers tracing the yellowed edges of the papers inside. “What do you think it unlocks?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. Ethan shook his head. “I don’t know, but this isn’t just a coincidence. Someone left this here for us to find.” Lila carefully unfolded one of the papers. The writing was faded but still legible. It was another message, scrawled in the same handwriting as the journal: “The key will lead you to the truth. Follow the light where the river bends.” She frowned. “The river... It must mean the old one that runs behind the mill.” Ethan nodded. “It’s worth a look. If someone left these clues, they wanted us to keep going.” Lila’s fingers brushed against his as she handed him the note. “Do you think this is all part of the curse?” He met her gaze, his stormy eyes steady. “If it is, then it’s time we break it.”
