Episode 8: The First Clue

201 Words
The next morning, Lila found herself standing in the bookstore again, the journal tucked tightly under her arm. Ethan was beside her, his expression calm but his eyes scanning the room as if searching for something hidden. “This place,” he said, his voice quiet, “it feels... significant. Have you noticed anything unusual here before?” Lila frowned. “Not really. It’s just an old bookstore. I come here sometimes to clear my head.” Ethan stepped closer to the shelf where the journal had been. His fingers brushed the spines of the books, pausing on an ancient, worn tome that looked out of place. “What about this?” Lila glanced at it, then back at him. “I’ve never seen that before.” He opened the book carefully. The pages were yellowed, the text faded with time. Near the middle, he found a folded piece of parchment, similar to the one with Lila’s sketch. Unfolding it, they both gasped. It was a map—crudely drawn but unmistakable. A small star marked a spot near the edge of town. Beneath it, scrawled in the same handwriting as the journal, were the words: “Where it began.”
