Episode 9: Where It Began

205 Words
The drive to the outskirts of town was silent, the air thick with anticipation. Lila’s hands clutched the journal as Ethan navigated the winding roads, the map still fresh in their minds. Soon, they arrived at the forest’s edge. A towering, ancient oak tree stood in the clearing, its branches reaching like twisted arms to the sky. “This is it,” Ethan said, his voice quiet. Lila stepped out of the car, her heart racing. She felt a strange pull, like the tree was calling her. As she approached, memories she couldn’t explain bubbled up, vivid and overwhelming. She had stood here before, in another life, in another time. Ethan knelt at the base of the tree, his hand brushing away fallen leaves. “Look.” Carved into the bark were the faint initials: L.A. + E.C. Lila’s breath caught. Her name. His name. It was real. Ethan’s fingers brushed something metallic beneath the tree. Slowly, he unearthed a small, rusted box. He opened it carefully, revealing yellowed papers and a small, ornate key. “This is it,” Ethan murmured, his voice filled with awe. Lila looked at him, her heart pounding. Whatever this was, they were one step closer to the truth.
