“Vi, get in here. I need you to sign these lovely people up for your kids snowboarding classes.” I heard my aunt shout and I sighed before standing up. I had been on the slopes all day today. Bad idea since I have to get up early to get everything ready for the first day of classes tomorrow. “I got it Aunt Virginia. I think Uncle is looking for you actually.” I told her knowing her mate was in fact, looking for her outside. “I’ll go then. Thank you Mr and Mrs. Hathaway for joining us this season.” She shook their hands and I smiled at the mated pair before nodding to them to follow me towards the front desk. “So, has your child ever snowboarded before?” I asked as I typed everything in without looking up from the screen. “Does standing on a sled and nearly scaring me to death count?” She asked and I smiled. “Sort of.” I laughed as her mate did and I wrote all of that down before hearing the door open. I didn’t look towards the new person knowing that was rude. “How old is he?” I asked seeing the little thing run around the desks out of the corner of my eye. “He’s only 7.” The woman told me and I nodded writing that down. “We do have a 4 to 9 class tomorrow morning at 8am. Does that work for you guys? It’s the first class as well.” I informed them finally looking up and smiling. “That works perfectly.” The man said and gave his mate a look I understood from parents, as well as all my aunts and uncles all too well. “Okay. The charge will only be 250 if you are renting the equipment.” I told them and then looked back at the screen. “And if you are buying the equipment as well as the classes it is 439.” I added and they looked at each other and then their son. “We’ll rent since he’ll eventually grow out of the boards.” The woman said and I nodded knowing that is what I would do, but shouldn’t recommend. I took their card, checked their ID, and then rang them up. Told them I would be the teacher in the morning, and then sent them on their way saying part of the lessons tomorrow would be to pick out the boards for the right height and weight. I typed the name of the kind on the roster as the person who came in before came up to lean on the counter. “Sorry about the little wait.... What can I do for you?” I asked as I corrected the small mistakes my aunt made. “I need a room.” I heard the masculine voice and held back my shiver. “How many are staying?” I asked him as I clicked on the resort bookings and looked for the rooms open. “Just one. And any size bed will do.” He added and I nodded looking for one. “We have one open on the 10th floor, queen bed, lovely view of the mountains in the morning, and it does come with free breakfast if you stay more than 5 days.” I read off before looking towards the man and sucking in a breath as our eyes met. “Hi.” I muttered with a slight blush as my mate smiled at me realizing what I had. “Romanian huh?” He asked me and I knew he was really asking since he was obviously not Romanian. “Yeah.” I blushed harder and looked down, licked my lips, and then looked back up at him. “What about you?” I asked knowing that most Russians and Ukrainians would be angry if you mixed them up. And he was definitely one of them. “Russian.” He said and looked like he was waiting for something but then shook his head. “I’m Luka.” He said and I knew what he was waiting for. “Violet. Vi to everyone else though.” I said standing and feeling a bit awkward. “Violet.” He whispered and I held out my hand... but instead of shaking it, he turned it, kissed my knuckles softly before looking back into my eyes. “Vi! Where are you baby?” I heard my dad and I heard Luka growl before stopping when he saw my dad walking through the front doors. “Hello sir, has she helped you?” He asked looking between us. “Dad, this is my mate, Luka.” I said walking around the desk to stand beside them. “Mate? Already?” He looked so sad that I had to giggle and look back at Luka. He was tall, muscular, and he looked stressed to the max as he stood rigid next to me. “I am 21 dad.” I said knowing I could have met him at 18. “But you’re my last.” He pouted and came forward.  “Vasile   Nice to meet you.” He said and held out his hand for Luka to shake. “Luka Mortez.” He seemed to choke on his last name but then cleared his throat. “Sorry.” He apologized. “Well, you shouldn’t pay for a room. Being new family... but first, dinner is ready at the house... let’s go inform your mother she is losing her last to a mateship.” He told me and waved me along beside him and I laughed and looked back at Luka. “We are right behind you sir.” He nodded and I smiled at him before holding out my hand. He linked his fingers with me and I led him with my dad leading me all the way to my families cabin. All of my siblings had met their mates.... All 8 of them. And a couple lived out of the country now, but most were still around the mountains, creating their own little babies that I loved to spoil. My sister Roxana just had a baby girl. They were supposed to come by tonight after dinner but before it started to snow. Keeping my hand linked with Luka, I led the way into the huge cabin hearing all of my family shouting and laughing and talking. My dad whistled making me flinch and Luka’s hand tighten just a bit. But it got everyone to quiet down. “I am just as happy as I am sad to say that the youngest, Little Violet, has found her mate.” He announced and everyone's eyes shifted to me and then Luka. I looked back and up at his face as he looked over my family. I had 4 aunts and 3 uncles on my dad’s side, while 1 aunt and 3 uncles on my mom's’ side. And they were all mated. Most of them only had one kid, maybe two, and then there were my 4 brothers, and 4 sisters. My fourth sister wasn’t here since she just had the baby, but everyone else was. And they were all here. Eyes focused on me and Luka. And he looked shocked as hell to see all of the people sitting there. Soon there was clapping. My mother stood up and hugged me while crying about how her baby was finally going to be a woman, how I was going to be a mommy soon, and I just laughed awkwardly and pulled away. Luka had focused his attention on me and not on my family after the mommy comment. “Well come on, sit down, grab some food, we have to run the trails after dinner. Luka will go with Vi tonight, so now your sister doesn’t have to shift with the baby still being a week old.” My dad announced and I looked back at Luka who was still only focusing on me. I took his hand again, taking him to my seat, and then seeing my brother Costin pulling up another chair for him. “This is Costin, my blood brother, and his mate Amara. My other brothers Sorin, Fane, and Lucian. Their mates Adriana, Molina, and Serena.” I said pointing to them all as I said their name. “And then my sisters Nadia, Cosmina, and Elena. Their mates are Theo, Alexander, and Angel.” I said going along the other side of the table this time. “Nice to meet you.” He nodded to all the men before nodding as I sat down first. “Are you Russian or Ukrainian?” I heard Costin ask and I turned and glared at him knowing how rude he sounded. “Russian.” Luka said and then cleared his throat. “Your king was just mated and married wasn’t he?” “Yes.” He said almost quietly and I started reaching for things to put on our plates. He was watching me carefully. “What are you doing at the resort?” I heard my sister Nadia ask and I turned to give her a look before he laughed. “It was sort of a vacation from home. Me and my brothers once came up here with our uncle.” “Why not your parents?” My mom asked and I kept my head down as I started to eat some corn. “My parents died when I was 8.” I heard my family start to choke on their food and I kicked Costin under the table as he groaned when our brother Fane spit his food out on him. “Oh, I am so sorry.” My mother said and I looked towards Luka and he focused on his plate as he picked up a fork and started pushing his food around. “So your uncle raised you and your brothers?” “Yeah, him and his mate both did. Since they didn’t want kids in the first place we were sort of that for them. We got along okay.” He brushed it off and I grabbed his hand gently before he looked over at me.  “So walking in here, seeing all of us, that probably shocked the hell out of you eh?” I heard my aunt call and I gave her a look. “To be honest, yes. My dad and his brother were the only siblings and my mother was an only child. Both sets of my grandparents died before I was born, and it has always been just me, my brothers, and aunt and uncle.” “How many brothers do you have?” My dad asked and I waited for the answer. But Luka was taking a bit longer and I finally looked over his face. “Just two older brothers.” “Ah, so you are the baby as well.” “Yes ma’am I am.” He nodded to my mother and she actually blushed at the ma’am.   “So what do you do in Russia?” Fane asked after finally collecting himself after spitting out his food. “I’m a scientist.” He said and I smiled. I hated science most of all in school. Math, math I loved. “What do you do Violet?” He asked me and I gave him a wider smile. “I am the manager of the snowboarding and skiing classes. Also the teacher.” I added and heard screaming from the front door and everyone started getting up and rushing towards my sister as her and her mate carried in the baby carriage. Luka stood and I just stayed by him, and smiled up at him.  “That’s my sister Roxana, and her mate Daniel, their daughter Reina.” I said and smiled at the whole family going over there. “My oldest brother is about to have a baby as well. If I am being honest, I can’t wait. But I am nervous. I have never been around babies.” He told me and I looked up at him.  “My oldest brother, Sorin, he found his mate at 16, was officially mated at 18, and then had a kid when he was 20. I was about 12.” I said and laughed lightly. “So I was a very good nanny to all of my nieces and nephews.” I said knowing they were all out for the night. “How old are you right now?” “Just turned 21 last month.” I told him and he smiled. “What about you?” “24, going to be 25 in a week actually.” He said and I had to admit, he looked almost guilty and when he heard a gasp he looked up and seemed a bit protective. “Who is he?” Roxy asked coming closer and I instantly blushed. “I’m Luka, her mate.” He said holding out his hand. She looked shocked before smiling wider. “Luka? Luka what?” She asked and he started to say it before she busted out laughing. “I am just kidding. Welcome to the family.” She hugged him tight and he looked over at me and I gave him a small smile. “We’re actually not that hungry. We’ll take his things to my cabin, and then I will show him the hidden trails.” I announced when everyone started talking about random things.
