The mattress had been delivered, and the men replaced the old one. Lucian was about to call a maid to tidy up the bed and put on the new sheets, but Georgina stopped him. “Let’s do it together,” she said to him. In their home, it was just the two of them doing everything. They didn’t have a maid because they liked to do things together. He saw Georgina lock the door as he took the sheets out from the cabinet. They had only put on the fitted sheet when she jumped onto the bed like a child. “What on Earth are you doing, Ruthie?” he asked, laughing at his wife. At their age, they knew better than to jump on the mattress because it would ruin it. “Just testing how strong this new bed is.” After her last jump, she sat in the middle of the bed, panting.
