Chapter 1 – Juliet Lois Martin

4456 Words
Juliet I look nothing but a mess, my hair is all curled up and messy. My lips look pale and dry, my eyes were puffy and the skin around it were darker than the rest of my face. With the looks of things, it was very obvious that I hadn’t have much sleep because of the incident that had occurred last night. I went home at one in the morning and left my number to the nurse who is in charge with my mother, in case that she wake up. I wanted to stay beside her but I can’t since I need to look for a job. I don’t want my mother to be drag out of the hospital because I don’t have money to pay for the bills.Even if I wanted to touch the college fee that my mother has been saving up for the past years, I can’t. My mother told me before that whatever happens, no matter how bad it is, don’t ever use my college fee. It’s six o’ clock in the morning and what I need to do was take a bath, take my breakfast and find a job. I hope and pray that I can find a job sooner. -- I’ve been walking in the streets for five hours and nothing has even came up. I’m out of luck, I’m beginning to think that this is the end.Even if I wanted to think that there is still hope, I can’t. Because of with the looks of things, nothing good has been entering with my life so far. When I saw the bench near a café shop, I sat down and lean my back on it. I’m sweating all over, my stomach is grumbling and I look like a mess. I still can’t get over by the fact that my mother is at the hospital because of some car accident, my mental well-being has been very much affected as well as my physical appearance. “You look like you have just broke out from the prison.” The voice come out from my back and I instantly stiffen my back and turn my head to look whoever that person was. I don’t know who this girl is or why she’stalking to me but I’m pretty sure that she really is referring to me. “I’m sorry but are you talking to me?” I pointed myself. “Who else? You’re the only one sitting there.” She chuckle as she fondles her blonde curly hair in front of me. The girl that is standing in front of me was pretty, she has a petite body, blue round eyes and rosy cheeks. Her blonde curls suits her that it made her look really attractive. “I’m sorry.” I stammered. She carefully seated beside me, in the most feminine way as possible. We’re a complete opposite. “So, why are you here? I’m sorry for being blunt by the way, you look like you need company.” In ever imagine that such person like this exist. Is this for real? Or am I just seeing my angel turn into a complete human being. What the fudge am I saying? “Does it really look like I’m that kind of person?” I let out small laugh as I tuck some stray strands of hair behind my ear. It’s kind of awkward when you try to talk to someone you haven’t met before. But with her, it seems like she’s know what she’s doing. She is very confident and friendly in a way that you really want to talk to her when you’re clouded with problems. “Even your laugh is horrible.” She bluntly said. The way she talks is different from the way she acts. “Sorry.” She smiles at me, showing her small white teeth. Is she a model or something? If I were a boy, I’ll immediately fall for her but only when she will stop talking. She’s very pretty except how she speaks confidently. “Problems. I have a lot of problems. You see, my life is a complete mess and what will save me right now is when I find a freaking job.” I exhaled and observes how she’ll react to that but it never change. She still have this smile and friendly look displayed all over her face. She stretches her arms upward and said, “Well that’s life.We all have problems and all we have to do was face them and look at the brighter side.” She folded her arms against her chest and crosses her legs, “I know we haven’t met before and I don’t have the right to enter your personal life and whatever. So, I’m sorry for being so blunt and sitting right next to you like we’re friends. I just needed someone to talk to you know. Well, anyway. Since we haven’t met before, we can be friends right? Name’s Angelique but you can call me, Angel.” She extended her hand towards me, I shake her hand back and said, “Juliet but my friends call me JL.” “JL huh? I still prefer Juliet. It’s more feminine than JL. Sorry again.” She apologize. Seriously, this girl has a major blunt issue. Not that it bother me though, I like it that way rather than people talking behind my back. “I have few friends because most people in my school wasn’t really fond of people like me. The kind of person who talks straight forward without even thinking of other’s feelings. Luckily, I manage to have friends who accepted me and love me. Not to mention the fact that I have a boyfriend, though we fought a while ago and—“She covers her mouth with the use of her hands, “I’m talkative. Sorry.” “You’re looking for a job right? There’s a job hiring at the café in front of where we are seated right now.” She ended her sentence with a smile. All of my energy was max to one hundred when she told me that. I’m finally back to my optimistic view with all the things that’s happening inside my head. “Thank you! Thank you so much!” I squealed. She covers her ears with her hands, “Keep it down.” She chuckled. I stand up from where I was seated a while ago and spread a wide smile on my face as she stares at me with delight. “You should get your ass inside that café so that at least some of your problems will lessen and anyway, I’ll see you soon. I have to go somewhere else.” She stands up and took her mirror from her expensive looking bag. She fixes the stray strands of hair in front of her face and put on a dark red lipstick on her lips. Seriously, whatever she puts on her face, she’s beautiful. I barely praise a person and when I do, I won’t stop. “Bye Juliet!” She waves her hand in the air and left with her two inch red pair of heels. You don’t see a girl like that every day. I may hear a lot of babbling or straight forward words coming out from her mouth, I’m still am happy that we met. I sure do hope that we meet again because I’m very thankful to her. She’s like an angel despite with those words popping out from her mouth. Okay Juliet, stop with the judging and get your freaking ass inside the café. Not momentarily, I found myself pushing the glass door of the café and glance at the marvelous appearance of the shop. This is no ordinary café because with the looks of how it was designed, it was very pretty and the feeling of it was like welcoming you home. The waiter and waitress inside were wearing long sleeve polo shirts and slacks on the bottom. The walls of the café were all made of glass and the floor are all expensive looking marble. Customers inside the café were happy and you can see it in their faces. The waiter and waitress welcome them with a smile on their faces. “Welcome to the café! Do you have a reservation or would you want to take a sit and have a delicious cup of coffee or our famous desserts?”The waitress welcomes me with delight as soon as she saw me enter the cafe. She really do enjoy her job in here or she’s just putting this up because her job needs to be that way? Anyway, I’m not here to eat, I want a job. “Sorry, but I didn’t come here to eat.” I stammered. “I came here because I heard that there’s a job hiring in this café.” I stiffen my back, to prevent myself from slouching and to be at least presentable. Though I’m a little bit sweaty, I sure do hope that this is not purely base on the physical appearance because everyone that seems to be working here have beautiful faces. “I don’t think that we have a job hiring.” She said in a low tone of voice. She bits her lower lip and looks away from my eyes. There is no job hiring?! Then that girl that I’m talking to must be playing with me. I swear, if I saw her again, I won’t stop myself and punch my fist on her beautiful face. “Wait!” She shrieks, “Who told you that there is a job hiring here anyway?” “Some girl with a blonde hair that’s somehow curly, blue round eyes and such. She’s pretty, petite body and—“ I was about to say the word blunt, but before I said that, she cuts off my sentence and said, “Blunt?”She tug a smile on her lips. I nodded weirdly. Does she know that girl? Maybe she’s the reason as to why she was also in here? “You start tomorrow. Just head at the back and look for Cody and tell him that I, Lois told you that you start tomorrow. I should be working now, looking forward to be working with you.” She welcomed me very friendly and I hope she’s not being plastic. Before I even say words of gratitude, she already left and welcome the customers that just got in the café. I should just save up those words for tomorrow. I did what she instructed me to do and went at the back, the worker’s station. It’s weird though, how I manage to enter in this café by just saying about the blonde girl who told me that there is a job hiring here. Or is it just my lucky day after all that five hours roaming around the streets? When I twisted the door knob and let myself in, I saw a guy seating at the black leathered couch. Even the worker’s station look nice, they must have a nice boss considering everything in here would please any employees. His piercing green eyes looking straight at me and it was somehow annoying. He’s like he was about to kill me even though he was just sitting there. “And you are?” He stands up from the couch and spread a smile on his face. “Juliet. Call me Jl.” I said nervously. “I’m here because Lois told me that I’ll start tomorrow.” “Is that so?” He walks towards the desk and took out a paper from the drawer. “Do you have any pen with you?” “Yes. I have one in my pocket.” I said. He pointed the sofa near the desk, “You could sit there while you fill up the application form.” He handed the application form and I took it. I followed what he said and sat down at the expensive looking sofa in front of the desk and started filling up the application form. He sat down in front of where I was seated and I didn’t dare look at him. I’m a bit uncomfortable when I’m around him. Well, maybe I feel this way because we don’t know each other and plus the fact that he is a guy and I’m a girl. Not to mention that we’re only the ones in the room and the composure is very awkward. I don’t like getting the feeling of awkwardness because it bothers me like I wanted to step inside my comfort zone. He coughs to get my attention and I still didn’t look at him. I’m being unfriendly, aren’t I? After some seconds, he opened his mouth and speak, “So, you met our boss. Are you friends or some sort? Because it’shard to enter and get employed here. The boss has her standards when it comes to hiring someone in the café.” Boss? Who the hell is he talking about? I haven’t met the so called boss that he was talking about. Maybe he was talking to someone behind my back that I didn’t noticed entering the room? I took a quick glance at him and I saw his eyes looking at me. So he was talking to me? While still filling up the form, I said, “Sorry but who’s the boss that you’re talking about? I haven’t met him or her.” “She’s a she and you won’t be hired here if it wasn’t approved by the boss. You sure you haven’t talked to Ms. Angelique yet?” He responded. Angelique, Angelique, Angel?! You mean the girl with the blonde hair, petite body, girly attitude and shitty mouth?! I mean, she’s just blunt. I slowly turn my face to look at him and showed him a wry smile, “So, she’s the boss that you’re talking about.” So that’s why I was able to get a job here. She’s the boss of this elegant café huh? Well, I wasn’t expecting that though. I mean she looks so young or she really is young and she’s rich and her parents let her take over this business? “You didn’t know huh? Well that was alarming. This is the first time she hired someone without going through horror. Not that I’m saying that she’s really a witch or pain in the ass, despite that beautiful face of hers, she really is something. Though, she really is kind. Sometimes?” He’s talkative huh? I don’t even know his name. “I’m sorry for talking too much. I didn’t mean to scare you or anything or feel you uncomfortable. My name is Cody.” I handed my application form to him and he take it away from my hands. “At first, I really am annoyed by the fact how you stare at me. It’s like you’re going to kill me. I’m a bit glad that you’re aren’t what I thought you would.” A smile formed in his lips when he heard me say that.“Cody.” I added. “Well, I’m sorry. That’s how I stare. Some people tend to be scared at me but most of the time, girls that I walk by find it attractive except for you.” He placed my application form on the top desk. Well, he is kind of attractive but then again, I don’t think that his green eyes, charming smile and brown hair will get the best of me. Maybe I was so focus on getting the job and to earn money that even a handsome guy like him would be nothing tome. “Hmm. A cocky one huh?” I folded my arms against my chest and stand up from where I was seated. He opens the door for me. “Well, I’m just telling the truth.” He defended. “You want me to show you around or would you like it to be tomorrow?” He asks politely. When I walked outside of the room, he followed me and closed the door. “I think it’s best if you show it tomorrow.” I want him to show me around but that could wait. I want to go home and rest since I’m so tired of walking around the streets for five hours just to look for a job. “Okay then. Be here at 6 o’ clock. Take care Lj.” He took the apron on the wall hanger and tied it around his waist. I guess he’s going to work now. “Okay and Its Jl not Lj. See you tomorrow Cody.” I still feel kind of awkward. He smiles at me and I just smiled back. -- That five hours of walking around the streets are so worth it. It’s because if I didn’t get my ass out of the house and roam around the streets and sat down at the bench, I would have not met Angelique and get the job on that café. Cody says that she’s some kind of a witch sometimes but I don’t think that he met that. Maybe he says that because she speaks so bluntly that he doesn’t really like it. Maybe he got his ass kicked because of her sharp tongue. When I took the key out, I twisted the doorknob and click on the switch of the light. When the lights turned on, I yelled in surprise because my friends where inside my house. “What the f**k?!” How did they manage to get in without a key and who told them to go in my house? I didn’t even told them to go here. Though I’m happy to see them. “What the f**k you say? You haven’t been answering my messages and calls since yesterday!” Chloe remarked. All my gal friends are here and to be exact, six of them were here. There’s Chloe, my best friend. We’ve been friends since we started going to school. Well my father and her father are best friends and they decided that it’s best if I and his daughter would be friends and go to school together. Long story. In short, she’s my bestfriend with a red hair (she really have a brown hair but she dyed her hair when we were freshmen because she wanted to have a new look), petite body, member of a cheerleading squad, party animal and pretty much good in boys. Stacy is pretty much like Chloe except for the fact that she isn’t on a cheerleading squad, she’s a member of the swimming team. Oh and she’s blonde. Sara is more like me, she’s very conscious about her grades and we’re both a member of the student council. We’re not really like Stacy and Chloe who tends to go at parties because of our academics. And because I was also busy taking a part time job after school. But when we do go to parties,we’re completely a different person. Though you really won’t recognize Sara when she is at a party because you’ll see her hooking up with someone who she doesn’t really know and later tells us that she’s dating that guy and they won’t even last a week. Compared to me, I’m kind of picky when it comes to guy.I rather get myself a drink than hook up with someone or talk to some guy that I don’t find attractive (that includes the attitude). Zoey, Rocky and Bella are the so called sisters because the three of them act like they’re twins when they really are not. Three of them were awfully rich, loves to go partying, usually goes shopping on the weekends(together), good at getting boys’ attention and doesn’t really care about their grades. Our group is popular in the school and sometimes other tend to ask how we are even friends when some of us aren’t really alike. Well does character really matter? The important part is we treat each other as sisters and we love each other. “Well I’m busy.” They know about the fact that I’m on a financial crisis since my father died and they accepted that and understands my position. They tend to help me sometimes or even treat me when we go at someplace that are very expensive. Sometimes I really don’t want to go with them because I feel like I’m being a burden to them but they always say that we’resisters. Though I’m not sure if I will tell them about the fact that my mother is under coma and currently at the hospital. “Busy your ass. You look horrible! We know that you’re looking for a job since its summer and you wanted to help your mother but be conscious about your looks! I feel so sad seeing you like this!” Rocky said. So much for the nice compliment. “Where’s your mother anyway? We wanted to say hi.” Sara sits down at the couch and waited for my reply. I’m sorry girls but I can’t tell you what happened because I don’t want to be a burden and since you guys have done so much. “She’s at her friend’s house. Anyway, what are you all doing here?” I changed the topic. I don’t want to talk about my mother any further because if they kept on pushing on that topic, I think I’m going to break down. “Well.” Stacy started babbling her big mouth, “We’re here to attend our first summer party! Ryan will be having a party at their house and I heard that there are some college dudes coming over!” She said in a high pitch tone of voice. She hurriedly take out something out of the back couch and throws a black luggage in front of us. Why the hell is she bringing something like this? “Since when are you interested in college guys?” Sara remarks, “And why do you hell have that? I didn’t saw you bringing something like that when we barged in through the window!” Sara kneels down the floor beside where is Stacy seated. Stacy as usual, gave her all-time favorite smug look and said the following words in the most feminine way possible while blinking her eyelids for countless times, “Uhm, since I started to get bored dating highschool boys and all of you didn’t probably saw me carrying this because, duh-I’m the last one who barged in byotch.” She showed her signature smirk and added, “Now, since this is the first party that we will be attending this summer, we must be the hottest and gorgeous girls at the party. Girls, get ready and grab some clothes! We’re going to be the hottest sluts tonight!” She unzipped the luggage. “Really Stace? Language please.” I sneered. She never fails to execute a profane language. She chuckles at my response which I think she took as a compliment. When she unzipped the luggage, clothes that are inside it where exactly not my type because first of all, it shows a lot of skin! And I can’t do that. I do wear dresses but not something like this, I’m no prostitute! “Seriously, this isn’t the clothes I would prefer to wear.”Zoey says as she get the dress on top and examines it. When I was about to say that I agree, she starts to open her mouth and said, “But then again, it’s not bad.” She said with a smile displayed on her face. I can’t believe they agree to wear this! I completely disagree! One hundred percent! Chloe touches my shoulder while her hazel nut eyes were staring at me, “I know that look. I promise you this, if you didn’t come to the party I will not talk to you for one month. That’s a promise.” That’s Chloe, my best friend. She usually does this when she feels like I’m going to back out. And when she does make a promise, she won’t ever break it. I’m completely defeated. Chloe grabs the black dress that Sara was holding and throws it at my face. “That looks pretty on you. You should try that.” She placed a wide smile on her lips and the rest of my friends were looking at me like I’m the main attraction. This is going to be one hell of a night.
