The clash with the Lycans erupted in a tempest of fury and steel. The night air crackled with tension as Nicholas, Nadine, her father General Elias, and the rest of the team fought with all their might. The portal, throbbing with ominous energy, loomed as a constant reminder of the stakes they faced.
Nicholas moved forward with a relentless determination, his blade cutting through the chaos with precision. The Lycans, fierce and relentless, countered with a savage ferocity, but Nicholas was unyielding, driven by the need to protect not just his realm but also the she-dragon who had unwittingly captured his thoughts.
Nadine fought alongside her father, their movements a harmonious dance of destruction. Her heart raced, adrenaline surging through her veins as she recalled her father's teachings. This was her chance to prove herself; this was what she had been training for.
“Keep pushing forward!” General Elias bellowed, his voice piercing through the tumult. “We can’t let them complete the ritual!”
Nadine ducked beneath a Lycan’s swipe and retaliated with a swift, decisive strike, sending the creature sprawling. Her gaze flitted toward the portal, which grew stronger by the moment, its energy palpable and unnerving.
Nicholas, spotting the warlock at the heart of the ritual, knew that eliminating him was crucial. “Alaric, Valen, cover me! We need to take out that warlock!”
Alaric and Valen acknowledged the order, slicing through the Lycan ranks with practiced ease as they cleared a path for Nicholas. The warlock, shrouded in dark robes, continued his chanting, his attention fixated on the portal. Nicholas knew that if they didn’t stop him, the portal would fully open, bringing unimaginable horrors into their world.
As they neared the warlock, a pack of Lycans surged forward to block their path, their snarls fierce and their claws ready. Valen, twirling his sword with a confident grin, quipped, “Looks like they’re not going to make this easy for us.”
“Good,” Alaric replied with a smirk. “I was starting to get bored.”
The two men plunged into the melee, their blades flashing as they cut down Lycans with a deadly efficiency. Nicholas took advantage of the chaos, pushing through and making a direct line toward the warlock.
Nadine, noticing Nicholas’s move, turned to her father. “I’m going after him. We need to stop that portal.”
General Elias nodded, his expression grim but resolute. “Go. I’ll hold the line here.”
With a determined nod, Nadine sprinted after Nicholas, her eyes locked on the warlock. The strain of maintaining the portal was visible on the warlock’s face, his effort palpable as he chanted.
Nicholas reached the warlock first, his sword sweeping in a wide arc. The warlock barely managed to raise a hand to cast a defensive spell, but Nicholas’s relentless assault pushed him back.
“Your time is up,” Nicholas growled. “You won’t succeed.”
The warlock’s eyes glowed with dark magic as he snarled, “You don’t know what you’re interfering with, boy.”
Nadine joined the fight, her blade slicing through the air as she attacked from the opposite side. Caught between them, the warlock’s focus faltered. With a desperate cry, he unleashed a wave of dark energy, pushing them both back.
Nadine stumbled but quickly regained her footing. “We have to stop him now! The portal’s almost fully open!”
Nicholas wiped sweat from his brow, nodding in agreement. “I’ll keep him occupied. You need to disrupt the ritual.”
Without hesitation, Nadine charged toward the portal. The energy radiating from it was overwhelming, but she steeled herself, focusing on the task at hand. She had to stop the ritual.
Approaching the portal, she noticed the intricate runes etched into the ground around it. The warlock had inscribed them as part of the ritual, and they pulsed with the same dark energy as the portal. Disrupting these runes might weaken the portal, she thought.
She knelt beside one of the runes, using her blade to scratch it out. The portal flickered as the rune’s energy dissipated. Encouraged, Nadine moved quickly to the next rune, repeating the process.
Meanwhile, Nicholas continued his assault on the warlock, his strikes swift and powerful. The warlock’s defenses were crumbling, and desperation was evident in his eyes.
“Why are you doing this?” Nicholas demanded, his voice edged with anger. “Who sent you?”
The warlock sneered, his lips curling into a sinister smile. “You’re too late. The portal will open, and your world will burn.”
Nicholas’s eyes narrowed. “Not if I can help it.”
With a final, decisive strike, Nicholas knocked the warlock to the ground. The warlock gasped, the wind knocked out of him. For a moment, he lay there, defeated, but before Nicholas could deliver the final blow, the warlock’s eyes gleamed with twisted satisfaction.
“You think you’ve won, don’t you?” the warlock rasped, his voice weak but malicious. “But you don’t even know the half of it.”
Nicholas tightened his grip on his sword. “Who sent you? Tell me!”
The warlock’s laughter was dark and chilling. “You’re in way over your head, prince. But if you must know... it was Councilman Jao. He commissioned this ritual. But as for why? Even I don’t know.”
Nicholas’s blood ran cold at the mention of Councilman Jao. Jao? How is he involved in this? But there was no time to ponder the implications. The portal was still active, and they had to destroy it before it fully opened.
“Nadine, now!” Nicholas shouted.
Nadine, having disrupted the last of the runes, stood before the portal, her heart racing. She could feel its energy pulsating, the air around it charged with power. With a deep breath, she raised her sword high and plunged it into the ground at the portal’s center.
The effect was immediate. The portal shuddered and its energy destabilized. The warlock’s eyes widened in horror as the portal began to collapse, the dark energy dissipating into the night.
“No!” the warlock screamed, but it was too late. The portal imploded with a deafening roar, the energy it had gathered scattering into the ether.
Nadine staggered back, the force of the implosion nearly knocking her off her feet. But it was over. The portal was gone, and with it, the Lycans’ plan had been thwarted.
Nicholas turned to the warlock, who lay defeated on the ground. “Your plan failed. Tell me more about Jao’s involvement.”
The warlock’s laughter was faint but still unsettling. “You think this is the end? You have no idea what’s coming, prince. Councilman Jao has more up his sleeve than you can imagine.”
With that, the warlock’s body went limp, his strength fading away. Nicholas sheathed his sword, his mind racing with the implications of Councilman Jao’s involvement.
Valen approached, wiping blood from his blade. “What now?”
Nicholas glanced at Nadine, who was catching her breath, and then at General Elias. “We take this information back to the kingdom. We need to find out what Jao is planning.”
The night fell eerily quiet. The Lycans were defeated, the portal destroyed. Yet, an unsettling sense of foreboding lingered. They had won the battle, but the war was far from over. Nicholas couldn’t shake the feeling that this was just the beginning of something far larger and more dangerous.
