Gabrielle's POV THE feeble light from the sun hit my face as it slipped through the gap of my open balcony. "Rise and shine." My father ordered and I groaned, pulling the blanket of my face to cover my eyes from the light. "Come on, Gabrielle." I muttered some cuss words under my breath as I reluctantly slipped out from under the silk covers, scowling at my father. Dad and I had been living together since I was 12. My mom passed away because of lung cancer and left her wealth to me for my future. Dad got all her pictures and her wedding ring. I remembered seeing him cry, which is rare because my father was a tough man. "Come on. It's last day before summer." Dad shouted before stalking out the room. I shuffled towards my closet and pulled out a white lacy dress and matching pumps. Afterward, I tied my dark brown hair into a high ponytail and applied some makeup. My green eyes brightened after I applied some mascara and eyeliner. My cheekbones were defined because of the subtle contour and highlight. University was alright because I had my best friend Quince, who I've know since I was a little girl. I remembered him pulling my plaits out because I didn't give him a juice box and ever since that day we've been joint by the hip. "Elle! Quince is outside." I heard Dad's voice echo upstairs as I stumbled onto my foot and down the stairs. "Bye Dad." I shouted and he shouted back a response but I was already out the house. "You ate a worm?!" I wrinkled my nose in disgust as Quince drove down the New York roads. "To prove a point?" "Yep. May I say that the worm didn't even taste bad." Quince replied with a proud grin as I looked at him in disgust. "I can't believe you." I shivered and he chuckled as we parked in the parking lot. "You did it for a girl?" We got out the Rover and Quince slipped his arm around my shoulder so I gave him a glare and he laughed in response. "Babe, you know I bat for the other team." Sighing in annoyance, I elbowed him in the gut and he cried out in pain, jumping away from me. "Yeah? Well next time don't eat a worm for a girl. I'm starting to think otherwise." I snapped and he scowled at me. Quince was homosexual, which was good because I could finally talk to a boy who won't have feelings for me or fake being my friend, just to get into my pants. "Stop PMSing." He giggled and I frowned at him as we neared our lockers. I pulled out my maths and science book and so does Quince. "I heard you're having a party." "Of course you heard," I said. "You're the one who hosts it." "At your house." Quince chirped. "Whatever Quincy." I sighed. When I usually have a party, I have its big and extravagant. So when my house was decorated and had alcohol everywhere, it wasn't a surprise. What surprised me was that the decorations wasn't the ones I wanted. Dad was always on business trips or too busy to notice what I do at home. I slipped upstairs while the maids kept decorating the place. I found a pretty black dress laying on my bed as I turned the light on, my curtains closing off the moonlight. It was so pretty and soft as I touched the fabric, smiling knowingly. The whole bottom but was transparent as it flowed all the way to the ground, allowing you to see my long lean legs. It was strapless, lifting my breasts, allowing them to look bigger. I smiled at myself in the full length mirror after I put the dress on. While I slipped on my black heels, I heard a knock on the door. I looked up to see Dad leaning against the door frame. He gave a smile as I stood up and brushed off any dust or dirt on the dress. "That was your mum's, you know." He whispered. "She wore it to the ball." "The ball?" I frowned and suddenly realised the Ball is tonight. "Dad..." "Don't worry, I knew you was having a party so I told my team to tell everyone it's cancelled." Dad gave me a knowing look and I have an innocent smile. "Thanks for the dress." He nodded and walked away, suddenly alert of his surroundings once again. Looking in the mirror one more time, I realised that my life is anything but amazing. It's scary because there's some out there who hates Dad. So where does that leave me? "Mr Able." Dad shook the old man's hand while keeping his arm around my waist, "This is my only daughter, Gabrielle." "Nice to meet you, young lady." His eyes rose as they looked at me mysteriously. I squirmed under his gaze and nodded politely. "Elle, he's our newest customer." Dad said with a smile and gaze that made Mr Able look away from me. "Why don't you mingle with others while I talk with Mr Able?" That was my queue to leave so that dad can talk to him about the business. So I slipped out of Dads grip and walked away, aware of the eyes on me. "Hello." I turned around and saw a tall muscular man grinning at me. "Erm, hi." I reply, warily. "What is a pretty lady like you doing here?" He took an intimated step forward so I took one backward. "My dad." I gulped quietly, looking over his shoulder to see no one. "Lost, pretty?" He gave me a wicked smile and I frowned at him. I'd never seen him before, not even on dads list of guests. Something didn't feel right as the air thickened with tension. "Yes. So excuse me but I need to get back." I shoved past him but his cold firm hand gripped around my wrist. "Uh ah, sweetheart. You're not going anywhere." He tutted. His lips morphed into a scowl as I stomped onto his foot and raced down the hallway, lifting my black dress up to allow my feet to run and not trip. His footsteps echoed across the foyer, foreign explicits being thrown at me. My breathing became heavy and tired as I turned a corner, towards the sound of music. Abruptly, the music stopped and so did the chatter as gunshots filled the tensed air. Screams and shouts were thrown around as I neared the room. My heart plummeted when I heard my dad scream my name before it faded into a whisper and then silence. Silence from the room and silence from behind me. I stopped running as I opened the ebony double door. The smell of gunpowder filled the air as I surveyed the room, shock hitting me. At least 6 people got killed while the others got away, safe, leaving me by myself in a house filled with killers. Cautiously, I walked across the marble floor, my legs trembling, to get to my room when I heard a shout from the door left of me. I panicked and hid underneath one of the tables, trying hard not to breath in the gunpowder that floated around the thick air. "She has to be here!" A familiar voice ordered as the doors slammed open and ten men in suits rushed into the rooms, guns at ready. My breathing became short-winded as the air thickened around me, my eyes barely stayed open, my body became limp as I fell onto the ground, not before heading someone say. "She's under here!" Total darkness. Total silence. Total pain. My body cried in pain as I began to wake up, my head burning at the same time. Someone help, I screamed in my mind as the heat hit me faster and harder. "Someone stop her from struggling." I heard a panicky voice and my head tired to register who it is but it was burning too much to even process. Darkness. "Dad?" I whispered softly as my head began to settle. "Right here, Gabrielle." I opened my eyes to see my dad looking down at me with unreadable emotions in his eyes. "What happened?" "An attack. You know that some people will come after us. Like how they did for your cousin." I coughed, my chest pain as I do so Dad passed me a cup of water, allowing my throat to feel moisture. "Why?" I asked, silently dreading the answer. Dad gave me a sorrowful look for a slot second before his eyes turned to the window. I took this time to view my surrounding; I was in my room, the curtains open, allowing the sunlight to pass through into the room. The window was open a little bit, summer air drifting around. "Because my business is affecting others. They want you, Gabrielle. They're coming for you." He answered, his voice filled with remorse. It wasn't a shock. I knew it was coming soon or later. I knew that I was going to get hunted because of dad's job. The thing that shocked me was why they attacked now? What purpose do they have now? "You might have a lot a questions. So freshen up and come downstairs." Dad kissed my forehead like he did when I was a little girl and he hadn't done that for ages so it surprised me slightly. I sighed and jumped out of my bedsheets and headed towards my bathroom. I had a quick shower, the warm water heating up my body and making the pain disappear. Afterwards I wrapped a towel around myself and exited the bathroom and made my way towards my closet. I pulled out an adidas top that's sleeves fell off both my shoulders, allowing you to see the tattooed Russian inscription on my shoulder, and matching shorts. Tying my hair into a high ponytail, I made my way downstairs and towards dad's office. I knocked on the door and patiently waited for him to call me in. After a quiet moment I heard a firm. "Come in." I slowly turned the knob and entered the room, slowly closing the door behind me because I know Dad hates it's when I slam the door, reminds him of the days him and mom fought. "Gabrielle." Dad said as I turned around, jumping in fright when I realised there's someone besides him and my gosh he's gorgeous. He had curvy brown hair and stormy grey eyes that was looking at me with amusement. He wore a slick black suit and tie that instantly got me feeling all types of things. Oh f**k. He had to be no older than 25. I watched his eyes drift down my body, lingering on my legs, his stormy globes clouding before he looked back at me with mischievous grey eyes. "Hey Dad." I whispered, suddenly self conscious of what I'm wearing as I never normally show this much amount of skin when meeting someone new. "Take a seat." He replied. I carefully walked to the seat, feeling the gaze of the guest on me. "So you know how we had an attack?" I nodded, "These's men will come after you so you need to be prepared and will have full guard 24/7." I gaped at my dad, the words forming in my mind. "Are you saying-" "Yes. You will have a bodyguard. No more going anywhere by yourself until this is over." Dad said firmly, leaving no room for objections. "Gabrielle, meet Beau St.Clair. He joined the army then left to become a bodyguard at my company. " I looked over to the gorgeous specimen besides my dad and watched as his lips curve into a sexy smirk. "Beau, meet Gabrielle Carter." Beau leaned over to me and held his hand out while allowing a sly smirk across his face. This man and smirking! "Nice to meet you, Gabrielle." His voice husky and low as my name rolled off his tongue. I was still shell shocked at the fact that there's no more freedom and I had a bodyguard now. I stared at his hand then back at Beau. Raising my eyebrow, I sent him a seductive smile. "Does this mean no more parties?" I asked, glancing at dad. "No exactly." Dad said, warily, as his eyes went back to the paper on the desk and his hand began writing. "Then Beau," I gripped onto his firm hand, watching his eyes widen with surprise for a split second before taunting me again, "Nice to meet you." I let go and stood up from my seat, watching Beau's posture straighten up. His eye colour shifted from dark grey to grey as he studied me carefully, almost noting down his next move. "I better go call Quincy." I told Dad as his phone began to ring. "Remember to tell him to be careful of the people he talks to." Dad ordered and picked his phone up before leaving the room. I looked at Beau, "Don't ruin my fun." He chuckled, low and sexy, before taking a step towards me, "I can show you new kinds of fun." "Highly doubt." I scoffed, "There's so many things I've done." "Guess I'll see." He searched for my eyes as I looked away where but his eyes. "Oh you'll see, Mr St.Clair." I replied seductively, allows my eyes to lock onto his for a fleeting moment. But they stayed locked longer than expected. He took another step and my breath hitched. "I'll see you around, Gabrielle." Beau whispered, sending shivers down my spine. "I'll see you around, Beau." I forced myself to turn away from him and not jump his bones. As I walked out, I swayed my hips seductively, feeling his burning gaze on my ass when I opened the door and walked down the foyer, towards my room.
