~ (Lilian's POV) ~
It's been one month since I got the tragic news of my aunt's passing. I hosted a quiet funeral for her and took over my brother's welfare.
Ethan was previously staying with my best friend Ashley, but we moved into my aunt's house and I started something of a life for myself.
I noticed that either Orlando or his wife, Paris, had sent a small amount of money to my account, and I used it to set up a little café in front of the house.
Life was slowly returning to normalcy… until it wasn't.
I was making pizza at the café on the first day I felt sick. Ashley was with me because her house was not so far away.
“Lilian, you don't look so good.” Her eyes scanned me from head to toe. She looked worried. “You're pale. You must have come down with the flu or something.”
“I don't know… the stress of my aunt's death and taking care of my brother must be weighing me down.”
“I think you should see a doctor. With what happened to your aunt, you should realize that checking your health is important.
“Okay.” I nodded. She was right.
“I can take care of the café while you go,” she offered.
I agreed.

The smell of antiseptic from the hospital made me nauseous.
I ran to the toilet and threw up.
“Miss Lilian Sanders?” The nurse called out when I returned from the toilet. “The doctor is ready to see you.”
I walked into the doctor's office, worried about the diagnosis.
After running some tests and examinations, the doctor sat me down.
He looked solemn when he spoke next. "I'm just going straight to the point. Miss Sanders, you're four weeks pregnant."
I rose from my chair because of shock, and my heart sank into my stomach. “What?”
I'd had s*x with Orlando just once.
“That's not all,” the doctor continued. “You're nineteen, right?”
I managed to nod in response. “Yes, doctor.”
My heart was beating rapidly in my chest, so if this was true, I was going to have a baby for Orlando Steele.
“After examination, I noticed your uterus is underdeveloped to carry a child. If you have this baby, it could potentially lead to complications later in the pregnancy.”
I sat up in my seat, trying to control my trembling. “So what does this mean, doctor?”
Was I going to die?
“We would need to medically terminate the pregnancy, or else…” He zoned out.
I stared at him, my jaw slackened, my mind was in turmoil.

“So, what do I do now, Ashley?” I cried to my friend. We were both sitting on the porch.
My brother, Ethan, was playing somewhere around the corner and when he saw me crying, he ran to console me, not knowing why. “Sorry, Lilian, don't cry.”
Ashley escorted him into the house. “Come on, Ethan. Go play with your toys.”
When she returned, I was still sniffing tearily.
She sat by me, wiping my tears. “Sorry dear, don't cry. I think I have a solution.”
“What is it?” I asked.
“I have a doctor that can abort the pregnancy for you safely.”
I widened my eyes. “Really? But I don't have that kind of money. Not with Ethan and the café… we're barely surviving.”
“He's not expensive at all. The truth is, he lost his license to practice medicine. But he's really good with abortions. I can beg him to help you at a cheap price.”
I was unsettled, but I nodded slowly.

When we got to the doctor’s house, he asked me to strip and wear the scrubs.
I tried to calm the rapid beating of my chest.
“Is it going to hurt?”
He gave an eerie smile. “You won't even feel a thing.”

I couldn't believe my ears.
“What do you mean, I lost my womb?” I shouted madly.
He finished the procedure four hours ago, and I was bleeding so terribly that I had to wear an adult diaper.
I was in intense pain and was weak from passing out so much blood.
The doctor trembled. “I… I don't know how it happened. I've done this multiple times before, but this has never happened. I'm sorry.”
I stood up in a blind rage to attack him, but a wave of dizziness hit me and I slumped to the floor.
The last thing I heard before I went unconscious was Ashley shouting frighteningly. “Lilian! We need to get her to a hospital!”
The fake doctor was protesting. “Please, don't tell them what happened when you get to the hospital. Say she was in an accident, please.”
And I blacked out.
~
I woke up to the sound of a machine beeping and an intense migraine.
“Wh… where am I? What's happening?”
The nurse turned to me. “Oh, Miss. Sanders, you were rushed in. You passed out because of complications from an abortion and lost your womb. You've been unconscious for three days now.”
I began crying as I remembered all that had happened.
“Am I free to go home today?” I just needed to go home, see my brother, and pick up whatever was left of my life.
The nurse smiled apologetically. “You're not fully stabilized.”
So, I stayed in the hospital for a little over two weeks. Ashley and Ethan visited on some days. All our money was expended on my treatment. Ethan was out of school. The café was locked because of a lack of funds.
The doctor walked in. “Miss. Sanders, I can see you're ready to go. You look fully recovered now.”
I managed to smile. “Yes, doctor, I feel much better.”
That same day, I signed out of the hospital.
I hailed a cab to take me home. At the back of my mind, I was wondering where I'd get some money to pick up the pieces of my life.
As the cab arrived, I noticed a small crowd gathered in my street.
‘This is unusual,' I thought to myself.
I walked closer to the crowd.
“What's happening here?” I asked an elderly man, a neighbor of mine whom I spotted in the crowd.
“The district cop came to drop a letter that in one month's time, they would be clearing our entire street to build a shopping district.”
There was no way this was happening. Does this mean we have to move out?
