CHAPTER TWELVE SuspicionZacke couldn't focus his eyes. He closed them and tried to open them again. Each time they struggled open for just a moment. The world blurred, unfocused. The sounds that filtered in changed each time, like falling asleep watching a movie then waking up again. He finally forced his eyes open and thought the blur might be Katie, sitting in a chair. The pain hit Zacke afresh. He felt on fire, like hot irons had scorched him. At first it felt all over, then he localized it to his chest and his arm. What were those things?
