It was a beautiful spring day in luscious Jade Forest of Edrait when Rocky’s adventure began. He was foraging for fruit to give to his adopted parents and sisters. He wanted to thank them for everything that they had done for him. When he looked up, he saw one of his adopted sisters, Pooky striding over, with her head and tail held high. “Rocky, what are you doing out here?” she purred as her Tabby cat form melted into that of a sly fae. When they were infants their parents found them alone in the forest. So they took them home and raised them as their own. Rocky was at least a few months older than Pooky, had short black hair, one blue eye and a brown eye. Pooky was tall and very slender, had slick silver hair and golden eyes. They were both Fae and could shift into different animals. Pooky usually turned a Tabby cat, for when she wanted attention. But most of the time, she turned into a fox because she felt like herself. While Rocky was usually a grey wolf because he loved to run through the forest and howl at the moon. But there were times when he would turn into a small dog for when his human sister Sarah needed a companion.
“Getting some fruits for our parents” he replied as he bent over to pick up a strawberry
“Why?” Pooky inquired as she sat on a nearby stump
“To thank them for what they’ve done for us these past 18 years” he replied. Causing Pooky’s slender, silver eyebrow rise in a questioning look, then she sighed
“Rocky listen. Because they found us stranded in the middle of the forest as babes and raised us, doesn't mean anything”
“Yes Pooky, it does!” Rocky growled “If they hadn’t found us then we would have been dinner to some strange beast, or worse”
“Fine Rocky” she chuckled. “Then I guess if you insist on getting fruit for them, then you might as well go after the Huskanaso fruit” she smirked. Rocky glared at her, getting annoyed at her constant teasing.
“Come on sister, the Huskanaso fruit? What fairy tale did you dig that out of?” he grunted. He watched as her sly grin disappeared and she grew stern
“It’s not a legend Rocky, I heard one of the Queen’s guards talking about it yesterday afternoon”
“Of course, you did” Rocky chuckled as he finished getting what he needed for the day. "And did they also talk about the bug man?" he teased as they heading back for their small home. He couldn't help but smile at himself as she rolled her eyes at him. Sometime later their parents, two older sisters and little brother returned home.
Their father, Henry Blackwater, was the head of the household, and very much human. He had been the one who found Rocky and Pooky as babies while on a hike through the woods. He was a big, burly man who had fought in both the ogre and troll wars 15-odd years before. But behind the tough guy attitude that he had gotten over the span of his life, he was very warmhearted and caring. He had short brown hair, dark brown eyes and plenty of beard to go around.
His wife Helen Blackwater, was a teacher in the nearby town of Trinity. She had been the head nurse in the wars, which was how she meet Henry. Helen was the sweetest and most nurturing woman in Trinity. She had been the one to convince Henry to adopt the fae children. She had long dirty blonde hair and sky-blue eyes. Rocky and Pooky’s had two adopted sisters, Sarah and Jane Blackwater. They had been born 4 years apart, but were as close as twins. Sarah had dark brown hair and chocolate brown eyes. While Jane was blonde haired, blue eyed and freckled. Both were very happy and were always smiling and trying to make everyone laugh. Though there were times when Sarah would go into fits of depression and disappear for a few days. When Rocky and Pooky were around 8, their magic started appearing. Which led to Henry and Helen telling them what happened when they were infants.
“Rocky, Pooky, have you to gotten started on dinner?” Helen asked as she removed her shawl.
“Yes mother” Rocky smiled as he finished cutting up the rabbits that Pooky had caught earlier that day. Once dinner was on the table and everyone had started eating Henry made an announcement;
“The queen has announced that she is hosting a ball to honor the 15th anniversary of the ogre and troll wars ending. It will be at the end of the week, and anyone who had fought is to attend with their families”
“Does that mean we get to go?” Jane chirped and Henry nodded
“Tomorrow I’ll be taking the girls out to get our outfits. While your father will take the Rocky out to get their outfits” Helen smiled.
The following day, the small family went into town and purchased their outfits. Which were all different shades of greens and reds. When they returned home that night and had eaten dinner, Rocky and Henry went outside to get firewood. “Father” Rocky said
“Yes son?”
“Do you know anything about the Huskanaso Fruit?”
“Yes, but only a little, why?”
“Pooky mentioned something about it yesterday, and I got curious about it”
“I see. Well it’s supposed to be a mystical fruit that is with the High Queen, who is the Queen's sister,” he replied and Rocky nodded. Now set to find it and use it to help his family. He was also hoping to figure out more about where he and Pooky had come from.
