Chapter 3: Evil arises

“Father. Pooky and I need to speak with you” Rocky declared the next morning. There were things that needed said since the celebration
“And what is that?” Henry smiled as he ate his breakfast
“Last night things have come to our attention about how you came to get Rocky and I." Pooky said as she sat next to Rocky. Her stomach turned into knots as Henry's face went pale
“I see that you know what we are talking about. You killed our parents, didn't you Henry?” Rocky grunted as he crossed his arms.
“You don’t understand Rocky, I loved your mother from the deepest part of my soul, and she left me for that poor excuse of a Fae.”
“Don’t you dare speak of my parents like that!" Rocky yelled. But calmed down when Pooky rested her hand on his arm. "Tell me this then, Henry. What about Pooky’s parents? They had nothing to do with my parents. Yet you killed them too, why?”
“It was an accident” Henry muttered as he averted his eyes. The room became quite for a moment before Pooky spoke
“Does Helen know?” “Yes” he sighed
“And what about Jane and Sarah, do they know of your crime?”
“No, and you won’t tell them what I did. You are not to tell anyone of my crime”
“And why not? You belong in a jail” Pooky yelled and Henry looked down again
“I know I do. But Helen and the girls need me.”
“What’s going on, I heard yelling” Helen said as she entered the room.
“We were discussing about when Pooky and I will be moving out” Rocky reported
“Oh” Helen said as her eyes glazed over “Where will you go?”
“The palace, where we were born” Pooky replied and shock overtook their adopted mother.
“How do you know about that?” she asked
“Last night at the ball, the queen and her daughter told me everything. Henceforth, it is best that we leave. Pooky and I already have our things packed. I’m sorry Helen, but Pooky and I can’t stay in the same house as the man who killed our parents”
“I understand” Helen said after a moment of silence. “But if you must go today, then please take some food and water for your trip. And please wait till Sarah and Jane return from market” she pleaded and Rocky and Pooky nodded.
When the girls had returned from market, Rocky and Pooky told them they were moving out to start lives of their own. Only part of the truth, but yet not the full. A few hours later, Rocky had their bags ready, and were attaching them to their horses.
“Do you have everything you need for your journey?” Helen asked, and Rocky nodded. Henry, Jane and Sarah were getting some last-minute provisions for Rocky and Pooky’s trip
“Helen listen, you and the girls have done nothing wrong. But you must understand, Henry needs to answer for his crime” Pooky said as she hugged her adopted mother
“I know, and I have thought of that almost every day for the past 18 years. But he is my husband, and the girls and I would die without him” she sighed as he and the girls came out. Shortly, Rocky and Pooky were off towards the palace.
“I’m almost sad to leave” Pooky sighed “But knowing what Henry did to our birth parents, I'm also glad to leave. But now I’m worried about Helen, Sarah and Jane”
“I know I am too. But now we can learn more about our parents and what it means to be a Fae” Rocky smiled with a sad look in his eyes.
Their trek to the palace took half the day, since the pair went a little slower then the night before. While they traveled, Rocky went into further detail about his conversation with Rain. When he finished Pooky was grinning.
“You are in love” she teased
“That doesn’t matter though. She's engaged, remember” “Well you should talk to the queen” she smiled. When they finally arrived at the palace, Pooky went and got their rooms while Rocky went to speak with the queen. When he knocked on the door to her office he heard her call him in, and he entered
“Your majesty” he bowed
“Rocky? I wasn’t expecting you here” she said, shock crossing her face
“I know my lady, but I wanted to talk to you about Rain”
“Rocky, if you have developed feelings for my daughter, erase them from your heart, and forget her”
“I’m afraid that I can’t your majesty because your daughter and I are to recognize soon.” he said and the queen laughed “You laugh, why?”
“Because child, there are things in this world that aren’t meant to be”
“Forgive me my lady, but Rain told me that when two people who are to recognize, they have dreams about each other”
“So?” she smirked
“So my lady, Rain and I have been having dreams about each other.” he replied, and the queen shook her head, and called in one of her guards
“Can you please fetch my daughter for me” she asked and the guard nodded and ran off. Moments later Rain came in, and followed by Jandar
“Mother, please break off the engagement so that I won’t have him following me around like a little puppy.” she pleaded. Her face brightened when she noticed Rocky “Oh Rocky, when did you get here?” she smiled as she moved a piece of hair behind her ear
“A few moments ago” he blushed.
“Jandar, please can you wait outside the door please” the queen interrupted
“But my lady” the pompous blonde haired, blue eyed teenager whined. But rushed out when the queen glared at him.
“Don’t worry Rain, I’ve already sent a message to his father to cancel the arrangement. But that is not what I called you here for” the queen paused for a moment before continuing. “Before you meet Rocky here, have you been having dreams about him?” Rain hesitated for only a moment, almost as if she was nervous to respond. But then she seemed to make up her mind and she replied
“Yes mother, I have been having dreams of Rocky. Ones that I predict will lead to recognition” The queen sighed
“I feared this would happen. Listen both of you, once it happens, you two are to accept it then separate. Do you understand me?” Rocky looked over to Rain, and saw her face go red
“Mother, you can’t do that” she growled
“Rain, you know the laws. Since Rocky is of a lower rank than you are, you cannot stay together”
"Not if I can help it” she grunted as she pulled Rocky out of the room. Once they were in her chambers, he stopped at the door
“Rain,” he tried to say, but she stopped him
“Don’t you side with my mother, she knows nothing. Now you hear me out Rocky. We're destined to be together, and I want our child to grow up with both of their parents.”
“I agree, but what are we going to do raise my ranking? You heard your mother.”
“You are going to get the Huskanaso Fruit”
“But isn’t it safe with the High Queen in the capitol?” he asked
“Safe? You think it’s safe with her?” Rain laughed. But realized that Rocky was being serious “Oh Rocky, don’t you realize who started the troll and ogre wars?” he shook his head “It was that crazy aunt of mine. She used the fruit to start the wars. The last time I saw her, she was telling me how much she wanted to start another war. All she needed someone to help her do it”
“But how will getting the Fruit raise my ranking?” Rocky asked as he sat in a nearby chair
“I haven’t gotten that far yet” she admitted. Then a frantic knock at the door interrupted their conversation. “Enter” Rain announced, a guard entered
“My lady, the castle is under siege, your mother has ordered you to stay in your chambers” he bowed. Rocky tried to remain calm as he eyed Rain
“Thank you, will you please go and retrieve Rocky’s sister for me? She should be investigating her new chambers” she asked and the guard bowed and left
“Do you want me to leave?”
“What no! You and your sister are staying with me. I assume that you two know how to fight?”
“We learned some from our adopted parents” Rocky sighed as his sister came in.
“What’s going on here? Why was I rushed from our new rooms?” she demanded
“The castle is under siege” Rain replied. As she tried to calm Pooky down, Rocky wondered how she could remain so calm. He figured that she got it from her mother. While they waited for news, Rocky and Rain updated Pooky on what had happened with the queen. Late into the night, one of the guards knocked on the door “Enter” Rain called, and he entered “Status report”
“It's done, the palace has been overtaken my lady. Your mother is alive, but is being held captive in her chambers”
“Who has done this?” the young princess asked, after a moment of shock.
“The High Queen my lady”
“Did she have anyone helping her?” she asked,
“Yes, she has a former soldier from the wars. I heard that his name was Henry. But my lady, they might hurt you, and you need to flee before your aunt finds you” the guard pleaded
“I will be leaving as soon as I get what I need. But I won’t be leaving alone, for I will have these two with me” Rain smiled as she motioned towards her companions. So Rocky and Pooky helped her to pack what few things they would need. Then they slipped out to the stables through a secret passage. “Rocky, Pooky, are you two okay? You’ve been pretty quiet since we left my chambers.” Rain asked once they had gathered their horses and were tying up their bags.
“It hasn’t been a full day since we left home, and he’s already driving the wedge between us deeper and deeper. Makes me think that he’s been planning this with the High Queen for a while now. But I'm more concerned about Helen and the girls. But I” Rocky sighed
“We had trusted him so much, after raising us. But he’s been lying to us since we were babes, and now he’s stormed your home, and taken your mother hostage. Rocky and I will survive this, but for now, we can put our anger for our former father to good use.” Pooky smiled, with a sad look in her eyes.
“I agree. Now, I sense that my aunt didn’t bring the fruit with her. Because if she did, then we'd all be dead by now. So if we can get to her castle in the middle of Edrait and get it. Then we can try and save our home” Rain said as they mounted their horses and rode off.
