They had been traveling for almost two months, Rocky Pooky and Princess Rain. They’d been making excellent time. At the last checkpoint, they discovered that they were over halfway to the High Queen’s palace. They were also hearing rumors that some humans had made a new weapon called a Boom stick. The rumors said that it was far more powerful than any weapon created. It shot small metal nuggets and could cause shearing pain. One evening, once the trio had camped in a clearing, Pooky had gone hunting. Leaving Rocky and Rain alone “I hope that this ‘Boom Stick’ isn’t real” Rain sighed
“I’m hoping so too.” Rocky sighed as he played with her hair “But I also hope it is because then it could help us win the war” Rain was silent
“If it comes to that” she sighed as she rested her head on his lap
'You’re so beautiful in the fire light Aila' he sighed
“Oh am I now?” she giggled as she sat up and crawled onto his lap.
“Yes you are, yet I find that you are always beautiful” he teased as he kissed her.
“Hope I’m not interrupting anything” Pooky’s voice sounded. Causing the young lovers to separate. Shortly dinner was cooking over the fire, and they ate in silence. Till Pooky finally spoke up “You two have been rather inseparable recently. You almost seem to be hiding something from me”
“Pooky you know that we aren’t” Rocky sighed as he ate his food
“Then why do I get the feeling that I’m not welcome on this journey?”
“You are welcome my friend. Without you I don’t think Rocky and I couldn’t have gotten this far. You're valued on this journey more then you can muster.” Rain smiled
“You tease?” the sly fae blushed and the princess smiled. Once they finished dinner, the tents were set up, Pooky retired to her own tent. While Rocky tried to seduce his lover
'Aila, my heart and soul' he whispered in her mind as he pulled her against him
'Mmmh Jael, your words are so sweet. But we should go into the tent before your sister catches us again.' she giggled as she pulled free of Rocky’s grasp and pulled him to their tent.
At breakfast the next morning, Rocky stretched his sore muscles “Busy night last night?” Pooky teased and he nodded as he rubbed his eyes and Rain glided over
“You see what you did to him Rain, I don’t think he’s able to shift till he actually wakes up” Pooky teased
“Well it’s not my fault that he teases me all the time” Rain laughed making Rocky blush. Once breakfast was over, he took first shift with the horses. Over the next few hours Rocky allowed himself to worry about his sister, about Rain and the baby. He thought about the impending war. Praying that it wouldn’t happen so that his lover and sister wouldn’t have to fight. If he lost them, or if he lost Helen, Jane and Sarah, he would die.
When he arrived at the next checkpoint, Pooky and Rain were already waiting. “What took you so long” Pooky laughed and Rocky rolled his eyes. Once they had gotten fresh supplies and horses, Pooky couldn’t help but ask about the rumored Boom Stick
“You heard about that” a human soldier chuckled
“Yes, what of it” Rocky said as he looked over a map
“Well we happen to have the Boom Stick” he laughed as he pulled out an awkward object. “This is the barrel where the nuggets come out. This is the trigger” the man said as he pointed at the different parts of the Boom stick.
“Fascinating indeed, but I’m afraid that we must leave” Rocky said as started walking towards the door.
“Rocky, what has gotten into you?” Pooky growled once they were outside the door
“One of the soldiers told me that man is set on killing us with the Boom Stick” he said as he pushed them back to the horses
“What, are you serious?” Rain gasped as the human with the Boom stick waltzed out
“Pooky, get Rain out of here” Rocky ordered
“But brother” she gasped
“I said get her out of her!” he yelled as he brandished his sword. When he looked back he watched as his loved ones rushing down the trail on the backs of the horses.
“Pooky we can’t leave him back there” Rain yelled over the wind
“I know, but we don’t have a choice” she sobbed.
‘BANG! BANG!’ they pulled the horses to a stop
“Rocky!” Rain screamed as she tried to turn her horse around
“Rain no, we must keep going” Pooky yelled as she grabbed her reigns and pulled the horses into a run.
That night, Pooky and Rain huddled together in a clearing. “Rain I’m sorry about Rocky. I know you loved him”
“But he was your brother, how can you not be feeling anything over this” Rain moaned
“Because I know that he’d want me to be strong for you” she smiled. They then heard loud rustling in the nearby shrubs. “Rain get behind me” Pooky ordered
“No, if those bastards have come to finish us off, I’ll rip their heads off for killing the father of my child.” Rain snarled as they stood and took they out their swords. The rustling got louder, till a figure limped into the clearing
“Who are you?” Pooky ordered as she grabbed a flaming branch from the fire and pointed it towards the intruder
“It’s me, it’s me, put that down” a familiar voice groaned, and the face soon came into view of the dim light. It was Rocky.
“Beloved” Rain cried as she dropped her sword and ran to him, and wrapped her arms around his neck
“Careful love, careful.” when she pulled away, she realized that Rocky had two gruesome wounds
“Your hurt, here come next to the fire” she pleaded as she pulled him to the firelight
“How are you alive?” Pooky asked after a minute
“I don’t know, I thought I was dead for sure. Especially after the first shot got me in the stomach, and the second one got me in the leg. I was lucky that the bastard only had 2 bullets in that damn Boom stick
“How did you escape?” Rain asked as she and Pooky started tending to his wounds
“One of the other soldiers saved me. The same one who warned me about the, ouch that hurts” he yelped as Pooky pulled out the first bullet out of his side
“Oh hush up, stop being such a cry baby. You’re lucky it wasn’t even in that deep. Rain you’re better at sewing up wounds then I am, can you?” she asked and the expectant mother nodded
'I'm worried about you Jael' she sent to him as she cleaned the rest of his first wound, and sewed it up
'I know, and I’m sorry. But think, I’ll have a couple of nice little scares to show our little one when they’re all grown up' he teased
'Promise that next time you’ll let me fight with you?' she asked. Rocky hesitated for a moment
'Okay. But I worry about and the baby Aila.” he sighed and she smiled “Ouch, Pooky” he barked at his sister as she finally pulled out the second bullet out of his leg.
“Oh you crybaby” she laughed as Rain cleaned and stitched up the leg wound, and Rocky pouted. Later after Rocky's bandages were wound around his wounds, he was laying in the tent. While Pooky and Rain were sitting next to him
“We won’t be able to travel for a few days because of your wounds” Pooky said as she checked on the bandages
“They’re only flesh wounds” he teased and she glared at him “I’m teasing, I’m teasing. We could use a few days rest anyways”
“I agree, but I wish it was in Aethsari first” Pooky sighed
“Aethsari? Isn’t that the elven capitol?” Rocky asked and Pooky nodded
“And it also means that we are almost to the High Queen’s castle” Rain sighed as she lay next to Rocky
“You two should rest. I’m going to keep watch tonight so that we don’t get attacked by anything” Pooky smiled as she stood and exited the tend
“Good night my Aila” Rocky sighed as he drifted off to sleep,
“Good night dear Jael” Rain smiled as she too drifted into her own dream world.
