KRISTEN ZOEY I walked towards the tall building where I worked as a financial analyst and met Katie on the way, she was my coworker and the only friend I had at work, we worked at opposite desks. “You look happy this morning.” She noticed and I just smiled. “Yeah I am happy, it is Friday and we are heading to the weekend and that is a whole vibe there, at least something to be happy about don’t you think?” “Yeah, maybe you have plans for the weekend?” “Keasha invited me to one of these parties being held at one famous club in town, maybe you should come with us plus I don’t think it would be a big deal, it is just a party.” “If you invite me why not, I love going to parties.” “Yeah that you do, you are welcome, be at my place at eight, if you come late, you will be left behind,” I said just as we walked into the open office and each straight to their desks. “You know I would never be late for such occasions.” She said and I just smiled then settled down on my desk to get ready for the day. The day went on pretty well as I had anticipated and finally, it was time to go home, I said goodbye to Katie after promising to meet straight at the club, I hailed for a taxi to take me home and it didn’t take long before I got home at around six in the evening, I had at least two hours to prepare myself, I went straight to the kitchen to fix something for myself. As I was watching the news whilst taking my dinner, I got a call from Keasha, “Hey, don’t tell me you have forgotten about the party, I am on my way to your place.” She stated and I smiled, one thing about Keasha was that she was always a good timekeeper. “Okay ma’am I am not even yet prepared, I was just eating something just in case.” “I know and that is why I am on my way right now, so you don’t keep me waiting any longer.” “Okay, I will be done by the time you get here.” “You better be ready because I am not going to wait for you.” “Okay, why don’t you concentrate on the road and focus on your safety because you will cause an accident if you continue using your phone while you are driving.” “It is connected on Bluetooth so; don’t worry just go get ready, we will be leaving in about an hour.” She said and then hung up. I hurriedly finished up my food and washed the plate then went straight to the bathroom, it didn’t take long before I was done and I was there trying to choose the best outfit for the occasion. After an eternity of rummaging through my closet, I finally settled on a short black balloon dress that reached just above my knees, I wore a pair of matching long black knee-length boots. I didn’t always like putting makeup so I just applied some lip gloss and a little mascara before I gave myself a final look in the mirror to make sure that everything was perfect, I took my handbag and my black trench coat before walking out of my room just in time to hear the doorbell ring. “You are just on time, I am done.” “I was hoping I will find you ready, it is almost 9 and you know I don’t like going late to the party, you miss a lot.” “I know, let me just lock my door and we will be on our way before you even know it.” “Okay, hurry up I am waiting in the car.” She said and walked back into her car while I locked the door and later joined her. It didn’t take long before we finally arrived at the club I could hear the music blasting from outside. “Sounds fun in there, you didn’t even tell me whose party this is.” “Your work is to party and enjoy the party, not asking who is hosting the party.” She said and dragged me inside; it was fully packed with a lot of people, some were grinding against each other, others were already making out while some of the just danced to the music. “This is going to be perfect!” I shouted over the loud music. “Yes, I told you it was going to be lit, come on I got us a table over there.” She said pointing at the other side of the room and sure enough there was a table for them only that there were two seats empty. “Katie, you are already here!” I shouted over the music and she nodded excitedly. The party was just getting started but it felt so alive, but I felt like I needed to dance to shake off the week’s tiredness. “I am going to go to the dance floor, I will see you guys in a few minutes,” I said and immediately left for the dance floor, the drink I had just taken was starting to get in my system, and I started dancing and just then a guy joined me. “I saw you dancing alone and thought it would be best if I join you, I hope you don’t mind.” A guy said behind my back and I immediately recognized the voice. “Isn’t that rude of you? I mean I was enjoying my dance and you suddenly just show up, mature and respectable people ask for permission.” I said and pulled back from his grip only to fall right back on his chest, looked up only to see him smiling. “What the f**k is he even doing here?” I asked myself but he was smiling the entire time looking at me. “Hello there, beautiful, we meet again, do you want to join a bunch of my friends at our table?” “That would be rude considering that I was with my friend when I came here.” “You don’t have to worry about that, they are at our table.” He said as he pointed at his table and true to his words, Keasha and the other girls were already at his table cracking jokes. “It is okay, I don’t feel like dancing anymore, let me get myself a drink, I will join you guys in a few minutes.” “Oh don’t worry about that, my friend Liam is holding the party so you will get the expensive drinks on our table.” He said dismissively and I shrugged as I followed him behind like a lost sheep. “Guys this is a new friend, she will be joining us.” He said and it hurt that he couldn’t even remember my name leave alone my face, I mean what could you have, done if you were in my shoe? “I am Kristen, it is nice and my pleasure to be with you guys” I said and sat next to him, they all greeted me and everyone got back to what they were doing and just then Liam came along with a game idea. “Guys, what do you think if we start playing the truth or dare, I know it sounds stupid and childish but that s**t never gets old.” “Oh, not again.” He groaned. “What?” “I don’t like that stupid game.” “Well I do, and since this is my party, I will be calling the shots, anyone up for the idea?” He asked and everyone seemed to agree with the idea. The game started with one of the guys being dared to remove his shirt which he did, Keasha was dared to strip but she couldn’t so she took two shots of the whiskey. “Reece this is your part so truth or dare?” Liam asked him and Reece shook his head. “Oh no, dare, I am not going to hang my dirty linen in front of you guys so dare it is.” “I dare you to kiss Kristen.” He popped and that got to me. I was surprised that Liam recalled my name while that good-for-nothing son of a b***h remained calm and acted like he didn't know I even existed. “I am not doing that, can we move to another game please, this game is sick and childish.” He said and I felt offended, I was hoping he would kiss me but he just bluntly said no. “No Reece, this is how to play the game unless there is something between you two that you don’t want us to know, do you like her?” “Okay, okay, I will but after this, I am so done.” He said and turned to look at me and faced me fully, I was sweating and nervous at the same time, he took my hand in his and rubbed it reassuringly, all eyes on us, he moved close to me and when his hand touched my face I cringed back, I felt the rush down my stomach and suddenly my body became hot, I felt like jumping right to it and kissing him but I knew I had to be patient. He moved an inch closer to me and brushed his thumb over my lower lip, my breath was shaky and I closed my eyes waiting for him to kiss me, I didn’t care if the whole world was watching us. He reached for my hand and I felt how warm his hands were, I was sweating, I guess I was just nervous, he looked straight into my eyes and I felt my breath hitch, I then closed my eyes and I felt him slowly reach for my lips placed a soft kiss on my lips, I felt a rush through my body, something I had never felt before, I deepened the kiss moved close to him such that there was no distance between us, caressed his chest and he deepened the kiss, I could feel his tongue darting down my throat. For the few seconds that we kissed, I didn’t care if anyone was watching, the only thing I cared about was the great moment we were sharing, I wanted to have more of it, I just wanted us to have the room to ourselves so I could savour the moment while it lasted but he suddenly stopped the kiss and looked straight into my eyes, I had never felt so vulnerable, in my life, he was surely going to be the death of me. “Why don’t we get somewhere we can finish this, what do you say?” He whispered in my ears and saying my throat was dry was an understatement, I tried to speak but nothing came out of my mouth so I just nodded in agreement. “Wow that was a moment you two shared; I thought you two were just having some fun,” Liam said and the rest of the group stared at us like we had just grown horns, Keasha winked at me. “Oh shut up Liam, you guys continue what you were doing; Kristen and I are going to get some fresh air outside.” He said and took my hands in his and I followed him behind like a fool. I threw caution to the wind and waved Keasha and Katie goodbye before I left.
