Isabel’s POV
In my sorrow, I allowed Lila to dress me however she wanted. I looked at myself in the mirror, unfit to trust my eyes. I looked like a lovely princess. My curves were revealed in the red clinging gown Lila gave me and it highlighted my magnificence. I know I was beautiful, however I never thought I was this gorgeous .
"… and for one last touch," she announced. "A perfume."
"I have one," I said and fished out the perfume I recently made from my purse. This perfume was created from my favourite fragrance. Joel, my boss at the perfumery, noticed how much the scent meant to me that he gave it to me as my birthday gift.
"It smells truly fine," Lila said as she splashed everything over me and gave it back. "Come on, we will have a good time," she said and hauled me onto the road.
Lila and I strolled through the streets. While she was used to clinging and revealing dresses and confident, I was not; and it made me very anxious. My anxiety increased with the unusual crowd of people walking on the roads.
"What's happening?" I asked Lila. "Why are there so many people in the street?"
"It's Julian's engagement ceremony," she answered like I should know who that was.
"Julian?" I asked.
"Julian is the first prince of the Valtoria Kingdom," Lila explained. "Also, he is engaging Gabriella, the girl from the noblest Wolf family in the Valtoria Kingdom."
"Wow!" I answered.
By Lila’s explanation, It was normal that the streets were crowded with people that came for the engagement ceremony. In Valtoria Kingdom, all packs were governed by the Lycan King, who had two sons, the first prince and the second prince. Just the King and two Princes were Lycans while the rest of us were wolves.
Our Pack, The Nightshade Pack, lived close to the Capital, The Moonstalker Pack, and wolves from the Capital always visited our Pack. Yet, I'd never seen this many people in the street.
Lila held my hands and directed me through the crowd. My increased nervousness followed me as Lila drove me to an outside bar that had a much larger crowd which made losing your direction very simple. Lila led me to the bar and requested two drinks for us.
It was my first time tasting alcohol and I was reluctant yet she cheered me. She continued to advise me to loosen up and I find it so challenging to heed her advice. Lila vanished for two or three minutes and I was terrified, especially when different men began hitting on me. I nearly ran from the bar when Lila showed up and chased the men away.
"What is this?" I asked as Lila pushed the keycard in my grasp.
"We will be very drunk tonight," she chuckled. "What's more, mother would bother us to no end if we returned home drunk. We'll crash in this hotel close by and return home first thing tomorrow morning."
She probably saw the suspicious look I had that she consoled me that everything would be OK. I was trying to argue with Lila when a huge screen at the bar suddenly turned on and a boisterous shout filled the air.
"It's Julian and Gabriella," Lila yelled as the screen showed an extremely handsome man and a pretty girl wearing ostentatious, expensive, royal outfits. The acclaim soon faded away and I heard two girls talking. They were whispering to one another and I could hear them since I was close to them.
"Julian is so handsome," one of the girls said. She was wearing a short, tight, pink outfit. She was a slim girl with an unusually long neck and her eyes rippled unreasonably.
"Yes he is," the other girl answered. She was the exact opposite of the first girl, with a short, stocky neck and fat, round body, "The girl is also gorgeous, I hear she is the prettiest girl in the Capital."
"I don't question it," the long-necked girl answered. "She was born eighteen years ago, on the night of the blood moon."
My heart sank. Gabriella and I were born into the world at the same time. The blood moon just came once every year and it was said that any female wolf born on the night of the blood moon was extraordinarily strong and breathtakingly beautiful.
Nature favored me with beauty but forgot to give me powers. Gabriella and I were brought into the world at the same time but her life was far better compared to mine.
I turned away from the screen and looked around the people. Everybody had an elated grin on their face; everybody except him.
His look on the screen was cold and glaring, he looked like he was wishing the engagement was not happening. His look was faithful and his chilly emanation leaked from his body like smoke from a dirty chimney stack. Despite his cold look, he had an amazing serene demeanor all over like the occasions on the screen were not an issue for him; but he was watching it eagerly.
The man unexpectedly gulped down a drink in his grasp in one go, tore his look from the screen and looked straight at me like he realized I'd been watching him. His blue, frigid eyes surprised me and I hurriedly turned towards the screen. The couple on the screen kissed and the crowd cheered in delight. I looked at the man, and the cool emanation that stuck around him appeared to grow colder as the couple continued kissing each other on the screen.
"… so sorry," the long-necked girl's miserable voice grabbed my eye. "I truly feel sorry for the second prince."
"Ethan?" the husky girl asked. "Why?"
"Didn't you know?" her whispers had a hint of rich fervor like she was going to uncover a great mystery and I quickly focused.
"Know what?" the chubby girl asked with excitement all around her face.
"Gabriella is the second prince’s fated mate," the girl answered. "They dated and were in love."
"Why is she with Julian, the first prince?" the husky girl asked, her stunned face mirroring mine.
"The second prince can't be the Lycan King despite him being the strongest Wolf in Valtoria," the long-necked girl explained. "He is the child of a surrogate and he's cursed. So Gabriella decided to wed Julian so she could be the Lycan queen."
"I can't help thinking about how the second prince is feeling right now," the chubby girl whispered. "He… "
I thought I had the worst life on the planet, but I truly felt sorry for the second prince. I know what it means to be disregarded and looked down on, to be hated and denied of entitled privileges. I also know it's always difficult to be away from one's fated mate.
I tore my look from the cheerful couple and looked in the direction of the man I saw before, however he'd vanished. I searched the crowd with my eyes until Lila caught me with a cup filled with drink..
"Who are you looking for?" she inquired.
"Nobody," I hurriedly answered, looking at the cup in her grasp. "What's that?"
"It's for you," she laughed. "To help you loosen up and have a great time so you can repay your boyfriend for betraying you."
"I don't know," I stammered. "I… "
"Try not to be a killjoy," she sulked. "Drink up."
I would have rather not been tipsy however she was correct. I should relax and have a great time. Also, it appeared she truly wanted me to drink it and I would rather not anger someone who was trying to make me happy.
"Great," she applauded enthusiastically as I brought down the empty glass cup. "I'll go get more," she said and vanished.
Not long after she left, I got woozy like the entire world was a merry go round and I was having a wild ride. My body felt hot and cold at the same time and I thought I'd fall.
I immediately fished out the key card Lila gave me before and managed to walk to the hotel that was next to the bar. It was the only one around and should be where Lila booked a room for us. I would rather not fall in the midst of strangers so I tried to get to the hotel and find my room.
My eyes were heavy and almost closing as I meandered into the hotel and found my direction to the lobby to find my room. I saw a door that had 302 on it and I quickly pushed it open. I was trying to switch on the light when I abruptly froze. I had company in the room and a low, wolfish snarl confirmed it.
