Under the Hill

Chapter 2

Kaylen:

The weather today has been perfect. There are quite a few humans camping on the outskirts of our territory due to the nice weather. Because of this we have all been doing extra rounds of the territory to make sure no one ventures where they shouldn’t. I am the alpha of my pack and it is my responsibility that we aren't accidently discovered by humans. We are stars of popular fiction but if people knew we actually exist we would be hunted and experimented on I am sure.

Max my beta called out to me over the mind link. I have spotted a human on the northeast corner I am pulling more men over to keep an eye on her.

I will come take a look and see if she is a threat. I ran off in the direction of my beta. I found him along the forest edge. I was about to ask him where the human was, but then the most pleasant scent hit my nose. It was the smell of flowers and morning dew on a spring morning, the most amazing thing I have ever smelled. Before I could process the scent my wolf Hades took over. He bolted in the smells direction.

I could sense Max's panic over the mind link but I had no control over what was happening. We broke into a clearing and a human girl was rustling with something on the ground. She spun just in time for us to come face to face. Mate!

It took everything in my power to stop Hades from pouncing on her. The best I could do is fight him from moving. The girl stood wide-eyed in front of me holding her breath. I heard max and all the nearby pack members come up behind me. Max reached out over the link. Hey what is going on?

Mate! Hades barked back at him.

Oh s**t! He could tell Hades was in control not me. He sent instruction to everyone in the pack but I couldn’t make anything out I was using all my power to hold Hades at bay.

The girl in front of me didn’t move an inch just keeping my gaze. I wondered what was going through her head. A pack f giant wolves suddenly surrounding her.

Max went back behind the trees and shifted back into a human. He approached the girl carefully. I couldn’t even process what he was saying to her. Then she said her name.

"Renlian."

Hades purred happily at her name. A beautiful name for our beautiful mate.

I maintained holding Hades at bay while a bunch of movement was happening around me. Then Max yelled at Renlian, "RUN!" she took off running and Hades tried to bolt after her. My pack pounced on top of us trying to hold us down. We heard the screeching of tires before the scent began to fade away. Hades wanted to run after her but after she got far enough away I was able to reclaim control. I shifted back into my human form before he tried to regain control.

I laid there a moment realizing the bruises on my body from my pack fighting me down. "Ugh."

Max extended his arm to help me up. "You good there bud?"

"To be determined."

"Mate huh."

"No shit."

"Human mate."

"How the f**k is that even possible?"

"Dunno man we will have to ask the elders."

I nodded my head and started walking back to the pack house. We weren't that far from it on foot but it would take them a bit to get there by road. Renlian. I hadn't even got to take a good look at her as I was trying to control Hades. I wonder how she is faring with all this. I mind linked with Ian who was in the car with her. How is she holding up?

She is a trooper, he responded. She's been asking us questions to get all her werewolf lore straight.

Is she not freaking out?

Not right now. She said she is unusually clear headed when she is pumped with adrenaline and would probably have the freak out later once it wore off.

That's good I think?

Haha, I said the same thing. We are about 5 minutes out from the pack house.

That was perfect. I had just gotten here. That gave me just enough time to run in and put some clothes on. I don’t think our first face to face encounter and me completely naked would go over well.

I ran up and put some clothes on then waited in the driveway. As they approached, I caught her scent again. It was f*****g amazing. Hades wanted to take over but I pushed him down. You are going to scare her away if you can't calm your ass down.

But mate is so pretty.

Well, mate won't be so pretty if she rejects us because we attacked her. The fear of being rejected helped calm Hades down.

They pulled up to the house and parked. Ian stepped out and opened her door for her. She stepped out of the car and I was able to get a good look at her. She was stunning. She had red hair and the most vibrant green eyes. She was on the shorter side, maybe 5'4" or 5'5". And damn, she was well endowed. Top heavy and hips for days, the impulse to rip off her clothes and make her mine ripped over me. I took some deep breaths to calm myself down.

She locked eyes with me and flushed, almost trying to hide her body away from my gaze. It's like she knew instantly I was her mate, the wolf from before. Which would mean she felt the mate bond, but that couldn’t be right, supernaturals all have some form of mate bond but when a supernatural claims a human mate, the human doesn’t feel the bond. Granted, I have never heard of a wolf having a human mate, so maybe it was different if the moon goddess bonded them?

I walked over to her slowly making sure she wouldn’t take off if I got to close. I didn’t know if I should give her an hand shake or a hug. A hug was definitely a bad idea but a handshake felt way too formal after the events of earlier so I awkwardly rubbed the back of my head and said, "Hey."

"Hey," she said hesitantly.

"Umm sorry about earlier."

"OK." She looked down at her feet clearly nervous of our interaction.

"I wasn’t able to introduce myself earlier s hades was in control. I am Kaylen."

"Hades?"

"Oh yes, our wolves have their own identity. My wolfs name is Hades."

"Cool."

This conversation was going nowhere. "Um are you hungry?"

"A little."

"Why don’t we go inside and have Mrs. Hardy whip us up something to eat."

She nodded her head but still kept herself small. We went inside Max and Ian walking between us incase Hades got any ideas. Hades was just whimpering wanting to lick all over our mate.

When we got to the kitchen, Mrs. Hardy greeted us with a smile. "Hey sugar, whom do we have here?"

"This is Renlian, my mate?" She looked taken aback at first and then ecstatic.

"How wonderful!" she exclaimed as she ran over to Renlian and threw her arms around her. "It's about damn time you found your mate."

You could tell Renlian didn’t know how to react to the sudden embrace. "Nice to meet you?"

"Oh sorry hun I got ahead of myself. So where did you find each other."

"She was on the outskirts of the territory and Hades scared her half to death. If you haven't smelled yet, she's human."

"I noticed that when she walked in the door. Oh poor thing, you must have had quite the fright."

"I am holding on," Renlian told her.

"You must be famished. Come sit down and let me make you something. Any allergies or foods you don’t like?"

"No allergies and I will eat just about anything. Thanks."

"Of course hun." Mrs. Hardy went off to the kitchen to start cooking. I went to the table on the far side of the room and pulled chair out for Renlian to sit. She awkwardly slid into the chair, still unsure of the whole situation. I could only imagine what was going through her head.
