Alpha Alex POV:
My gaze went straight to the bottom of the mountain, where brown, dusty powders covered both my palms, tiny brown particles glued to them. My blue shorts are decorated with brown dust print.
My hands were on my waist, as my shoulders fell. My gaze traveled around the towering mountains, which wore leaves all over them, the rivers coming from the North and South, but never met.
My chest fell as I took a few steps to the end of the mountain. The golden ray of the sun wrapped itself around me, a moment meant to be before I was born.
My eyes teared up as the memories of a few nights ago filled my mind. I shut my eyes as the scream and tears from that night welled up within me.
My grip tightened on my waist, my heart beat pumping harder. I gulped hard and turned around with my eyes wide open when the image of the little girl from that night flashed across my mind.
The pace of my shoulder slowly declined as I stared at the ground. "Are you sure you are ready for this?"
I tilted my head towards him, my gaze lingered on his face, white, bearded, oval face, and back to the vast land behind me. I paused, my shoulders fell. "Do I have a choice?"
He walked towards me, his hands on my shoulder, while he stared deep into my eyes, "Alpha Alex, you know you don't have to go down this route; you can go down the route of your father.”
I brushed his hands off and backed him, my arms folded on my chest, "My father? Don't you understand? He was a weak man, that's why this happened."
The glow of the sun suddenly dwindled, my clothes danced to the movement of the wind. Elder Blake, and I exchanged glances, and he chuckled, "Seems like your dad ain't pleased with what you just said."
"It still does not change the fact that he is a weak man," I stepped closer towards him, grabbed his hands, and stared deep into his eyes, "Can't you see what could have happened if he wasn't weak? Think about it, you were one of his confidants, and his best friend."
He withdrew his hands, moving the strands of hair that covered his left eye, "You said one of his.... I wasn't the only one." His shoulders fell, "Your father......the alpha of the Gold Pack.....was not a weak man."
I chuckled, shaking my head, "You don't get it right?"
"Don't tell me we climbed all the way up here to talk about this? We could have done justice to this in the alpha chamber with a bottle of red wine."
I stumped my feet on the ground, "Elder Blake, I mean business."
He walked past me, and stood on the cliff of the mountain, "You still haven't answered the question I asked earlier...... Are you ready for this?"
He swiped his head backwards, his hands behind his back, both of his palms in a fist. His long hair danced to the movement of the wind.
I stared at him and gulped hard, my lips quaked. I huffed and took my gaze off him.
"It's obvious you don't have an answer yet, and I am not going to fault you for that. I served your father, and I must say he really loved this land, and the people."
I walked towards him, his face was set like a flint, "You saw your father as a weak man, whereas he was a meek man. He doesn't seem strong to you, but he was compassionate. One of the best Alphas this pack has ever witnessed."
He swiped his head towards me, his gaze lingered, "In a few days it will be your turn to lead the pack. Your father asked that I make sure you don't err.
But I am not going to do that. I believe you are strong enough to face the repercussions of every decision you make as a person, and as the Alpha of the Gold pack. Destiny awaits you, the weight and life of the pack is upon your shoulder."
He paused, his fingers dancing repeatedly on my right shoulder, "How will you fare, and how willing, and how far will you go to protect and play your role despite the million odds that would be against you?"
Just maybe, you might understand the actions your father took, and why he's not a weak man."
He tapped me thrice, and walked away, heading down the mountain.
I shut my eyes, and let the weight of his words sink into me, "Are we ready?"
(A few hours later)
I stood in the dim hallway which had the shadows of flames dancing on both sides of the wall. The air was warm, but filled with sweet burning incense.
My skin became one with the cold wall while I gazed at the door of my father's room, my arms folded on my chest.
After his death, and that of his wife, I had never stepped into the room. My lips tugged up, as childhood memories flashed across my mind.
I shook my head, and moved away from the wall, staring at the golden key buried in my right palm. My gaze moved to the door, back to the key, and then to the golden door which had a drawing of the sun on it.
I turned to the entrance of the hallway, and back to the door. I threw the key in the air, and walked towards the door I had deserted for months. I slut the key into the lock, and walked in.
My hands quickly reached for my nose, and I took a step back. The room was dark, and I could tell there were thousands of spider webs hanging all over the air.
I took out my phone, and the room came alive, showcasing the colonies of webs, and beautiful dust prints scattered all over the room. I paused when I saw some papers lying carelessly on the bed with a pen close to it.
I moved quickly to the bed and bowed. I gulped hard at the sight of the pen, it was the pen of authority. I quickly placed my phone down and picked up the papers.
My eyes shone brightly, my lips parted, my fingers quaked as I glanced through the papers.....
